School sports transgender policy bad for students, say Nebraska's bishops

Lincoln, Neb., Apr 14, 2016 / 12:04 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Nebraska’s body governing school athletics has failed to overturn a policy that will recognize gender identity rather than biological sex as a standard for student athletes, and last week the state’s bishops said they “deeply regret” the situation.

“Recognizing the truth about each person’s biological sex, and basing policies upon that fundamental truth, would serve the best interest of Nebraska’s students, families and schools,” they said April 8.

The bishops said that the Catholic member schools of the association will continue to urge it to rescind the policy, and will “require that students participate in NSAA activities according to their sex at birth.”

I can’t believe what I’m witnessing, our culture is truly confused.
 
“The Nebraska School Activities Association’s board of directors in January voted to create a process for students who identify as transgender to take part in sports based on their chosen gender.”
So boys can play on girls’ teams and vice versa?
 
This is bad news for the Catholic schools like the high school I went to. They moved up to a different “class” for athletics and play many public schools.

This is bad news for contact sports…especially football.
 
In most states, girls have been able to play on boys’ teams for a long time. This is especially true if there is a boys’ team for a given sport, but not a girls’ team. There are many girls playing high school football already - and the vast majority of them are attracted to boys; they just enjoy playing football. The same goes for wrestling, hockey, etc. And, in fact, in cross-country and track, it is not uncommon for boys and girls to race together if there are time constraints involved (though usually there are separate awards for boys and girls; this mirrors road racing where men and women compete in the same race, but separate awards are given for men and women).

On the other hand, allowing biological males to be on a girls team has generally always been considered to be unfair, as males are, on average, physically stronger than girls due to biology (and, yes, I know that there are many girls that can beat most boys in races, or in wrestling, or whatever - I’m just talking generalities here). I can see the outrage the first time a trans “girl” - especially a trans “girl” who hasn’t been “transformed” - wins a race against biological girls. Of course, the “Progressive” media will spin it so that the families of the biological girls aren’t being “accepting” enough - or that they are “homophobic”, or whatever.
 
I agree with the bishops here. The transgender ideology is bad for common sense.
 
Unsurprisingly, biological males often excel on girls teams.
