**SAN DIEGO – **In the wake of last week’s immigration-reform protests, one school district is taking drastic measures, banning all symbols of patriotism, both U.S. and Mexican.

Beginning Monday, the Oceanside Unified School District is banning all flags and patriotic clothing. According to school officials, some students are using the garments and flags to taunt classmates.

Some critics of the move are calling it a violation of free speech protections guaranteed by the Constitution.

This country is intimidated by the, *“Being Political Correct” * thing. I for one am sick, sick & disgusted. Let some of these demonstrators try that in a country that has not the freedom they enjoy here. Administrators are using safety as an excuse. Well, excuses are the start of destruction, both in politics and our relationship with GOD.

When we proclaim that the “IT” was something we couldn’t resist and when Govt. officials say, “For safety’s sake” these acts were brought about it is nothing but an excuse for irresponsibility, failure to act by the same standards you arrived at this place in life. The gutless, non-law abiding people are taking over our country and not using weapons of mass destruction.

I mostly agree, I’m not the US or anything, but banning patriotic clothing and any flag is a gutless thing to do.

Remove the reminder isn’t going to work, school officals there need to grow a spine instead of taking the coward’s way out

Even in Canada, there’s a movement to regain some sanity, thanks to PM Harper, the culture war is bigger in the US, though, and an American is fighting terrorism and the PC crowd at the same time.

When a nation becomes an idol, that, too is the start of destruction…

The US one country among just over 100 others. We are the most powerful both militarily and economically. That doesn’t mean that we are especially “favored of God” or anything else and there’s nothing in Scripture or Tradition that would suggest that there would be such a nation outside the Catholic Church.

Let’s bear in mind that PRUDENCE is one of the virtues that the Church encourages. It is a PRUDENT move to temporarily prohibit nationalistic (ne “patriotic”) symbols during a time of nationalist tension. It would be IMPRUDENT and a sin to allow one nationalistic symbol and prohibit another or allow both symbols during a time of tension where violence may result.

That is an interesting observation. However I don’t think history bares it out. Usually, countries that are well respected by their citizenry are in their ascendancy or are in their “golden age.” When the citizens could care less about the country, they start to decline, and eventually are taken over by another entity.

Granted. I wish to point out, however, that there is a difference between being proud of your country and being prideful about your country.

I am proud to be a United State citizen. I am proud of my state of birth and residence, California. The principles of the United States are unparallelled in the history of nations: a nation founded upon the idea of liberty and the rights of every person (with exception until very recently. I want the best for this country and the people within it which is why I speak out on topics that I feel strongly about.

I am also saddened by many of the things that have been done by the leadership of this country, in the past and the present, that have done much to diminish the US in the view of other countries because of prideful actions.

Yes. I find it chilling seeing young children saying this kind of thing. It’s like something from a totalitarian state.

The UK gets along perfectly well without doing something like this.

I don’t think it should be required, but I don’t object to it.

Indifferent. If you object to whatever the Boy Scouts do, you don’t have to join them.

Growing up in the late 1960’s and into the 70’s American flags, along with a list of former Presidents and a picture of our current President was in every classroom.

We said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning until I was a Sophmore in High School as well.

From where I sit, this needs to be a part of every classroom in America instead of the politically correct abominations that are perpetuated now.
