Schools Ban Patriotic Clothes, Flags

Growing up in the late 1960’s and into the 70’s American flags, along with a list of former Presidents and a picture of our current President was in every classroom.

We said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning until I was a Sophmore in High School as well.

From where I sit, this needs to be a part of every classroom in America instead of the politically correct abominations that are perpetuated now.

I graduated HS in 1997, and we were still saying the pledge every morning, lead over the PA system by a member of the JROTC; and if I remember correctly almost every classroom had flags in them. You gotta love small towns!

WESTMINSTER - People gathered in the rain Friday morning to wave Old Glory, hand out American-flag T-shirts to students and cheer the lifting of a ban on certain types of clothing at Shaw Heights Middle School. Most of the students accepted the free T-shirts, but some Hispanic students declined, saying they feared they’d be the targets of overly exuberant patriotism.

George Straface, superintendent of the Adams County 50 School District, said the six students suspended while the ban was in effect will be dealt with in two different ways. Those suspended for taunting others will keep the incident on their records. But those suspended for wearing banned clothing will have their suspensions erased. Principal Myla Shepherd banned Mexican and U.S. flags, flag-insignia bandanas and camouflage clothing after the items ratcheted up tensions at the school that has about an equal number of Hispanic and white students.
