Scientific Reports on Miracles in the Vatican Archives

So I’ve been talking to a non-RC friend of mine who, while devout Christian, has said he has some trouble sometimes with faith because he’s a man of science. I suggested he look over the reports on Our Lady of Guadalupe, or some of the scientific reports on miracles that the Vatican uses for their canonization processes. He asked where he could find those, and I went on a wild goose-chase through the Vatican archives and the depths of google trying to track them down.

Would anyone be able to give me direct links or advice on how to track down those reports directly? Or are they only in the secret archives?

(Also, if anyone can point to a disproval of the study published in Proceso by Dr. Rosales about Our Lady of Guadalupe, I would be much obliged. I’ve read Dr. Callahan of NASA’s original work and, while admirable, clashes with Dr. Rosale’s work on several accounts.)

Please, NO WORD-OF-MOUTH STORIES OR PIOUS RAMBLINGS! I’m looking for well-researched medical and scientific reports with cold hard testable data, not “stories for personal edification.” I’m well aware of all the fascinating intricacies of Guadalupe and don’t need a recital on the value of faith. (Historical reports from L’Oservatorio would be acceptable as well.)

Again, if anyone can tell me where in the archives the medical reports on healings or other miracles can be found, please leave the link down below.

I’d like to know that info, too. If you can’t find anything “official” you might try this amazing book, “The Miracle of Lourdes” by Ruth Cranston. The book was written in the 1950s by a Protestant woman who was curious about Lourdes, and she did it with the help of Church officials and the doctors who work there.

The book is not about the apparitions. It’s about the medical miracles and how the Medical Bureau of Lourdes authenticates the miraculous cures. It is well-written and chock full of fascinating detail about what goes on there, both in the baths, and in the Medical office where the doctors work. According to the doctors, there have been approximately 10,000 miraculous cures there, even though the Church only recognizes 70. The Church’s criteria is waaaay more stringent than the mostly-agnostic doctors themselves, go figure!

I’ve only seen that type of information in books. Unfortunately, I read them decades ago and don’t remember a title. One that I have a vague memory about, was a Doctor who converted because of a patient with an incurable disease, but was cured at Lourdes. He decided to look into it and wrote about many of the cases in that book.

Sorry I don’t have any further information. I guess my suggestion is to look for books on the subject. Here’s one that I googled.

You may never find what he is looking for, as he sets the rules. Rather than the anecdotal evidence of individual cases, would he not benefit more from expansive principles - those which apply equally to the creation of the universe, as well as to the sub-molecular level?

Fr. Robert Spitzer might be a good resource for him, as he founded the Magiscenter (of faith and reason). Any of Fr. Spitzer’s YouTube videos (Father Spitzer’s Universe) on science and creation may also be helpful. This video in particular harmonizes scientific knowledge of the universe with Fr. George Lemaitre’s theory of creation (aka the ‘Big Bang’). Fr. Lemaitre being a collaborator with fairly well-known scientists as Edwin Hubbell and a certain man named Einstein.

Any of Fr. Spitzer’s videos entitled Father Spitzer’s Universe on YouTube might be useful.
