Yes, that’s true. Same thing with a warthog or a wild boar, the long tail is held straight up while running or charging. (If you’ve ever been on a boar hunt, those things are fast and dangerous!).

The curly cue tail is something you see on a domesticated pig or hog on a farm or as a pet.
I’ve hunted and killed many a Boar. Most of the time they’re sitting or backed up against something because everytime they stand up the dogs take a nip at their behind. You know, I’ve never really noticed their tail. Their tusks, yeah. When I skin them, their tails are just cut off. It’s tiny, I guarantee you…AND they are the exact size of a domesticated pig.

I take it you’re hunting in America? There are no native wild boars in America – most feral hogs are descendants of escaped domesticated pigs. Even importer wild boars interbreed with the imported domesticated stock.

I also take it you hunt them with a gun? Going in with a boar spear is something people seldom do any more – but when they do, the boar is a very dangerous opponent. And yes, they charge, and with the tail erect.

At Hohenfels, Germany, we had a soldier killed by a boar he had the bad fortune to stumble upon during a military exercise.

Boar hunting in Hawaii. I live on the Big Island, done it with gun as well as a machete. A spear, though is better because you don’t have to get too close to it and you don’t hit the dogs… Lots and lots of Boars here. Both kinds. Stalking I like better though. Keeps your senses keen. With dogs, it’s no problem. Safe except for torn up dogs.

You’re hunting hybrids. I’ve seen hybrids taken literally by hand. I’ve also seen a Russian boar (an import) charge – it’s an awe-inspiring sight.

In the days when men hunted wild boars with spears, half armor, from the waist down, was de riguer.

I’ve been known to.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

The encounter with the Russian boar was near Tellico Junction, Tennessee, during a primitive hunt on a private preserve. The guide had a briefing for those using muzzle loaders, “When you shoot, climb a tree and then look back to see if you got him. Don’t get that out of sequence.”

When someone asked, “Are they that dangerous?” he didn’t answer. He just rolled up his pants leg and stuck his finger all the way into his calf – you could see the tip of his finger make a bulge on the other side.

He had been knocked down and savaged by a boar, and there was a tusk hole through the calf muscle, which healed with only a covering of skin at either end.

You know you don’t have to be some macho guy to hunt. You just need to know your prey and be prepared. The Boars in Hawaii can kill you just as easily as any you have seen if you’re not careful. Taken by hand? Not in your wildest dream! You should see them as I have, they’re more wolf-like than like domestic pigs. Long tusks and black as night, really beautiful animals. **All of them with little tails. ** Whether they stick up or not? Who cares.

They stick up when they charge, believe me.

I’ve seen a lot of wild pigs taken, some really impressive, some not so impressive. And yes, I’ve seen some taken by hand. The technique is to lift a hind leg off the ground and hope to hell someone else gets the other leg.

I’ve also seen a sounder turn on the dogs and kill one before the others got away.

So much for hunting exploits. The hunt for dinosaurs is on!! Now there’s something that could really be challenging. I wonder if you smoked the meat like we do the Boar it might improve it’s flavor.

Peleg, one of the descendants of Noah was in a time when the single land mass was divided into the continents, to answer a long-ago earlier question. See Genesis 10:24.

Can anyone come up with an answer to this question? How reliable is carbon 14 dating, and what are it’s limitations? I think it reaches a limit after a few thousand years.

Peleg, one of the children of Noah was in a time when the single land mass was divided into the continents, to answer a long-ago earlier question. See Genesis 10:24. .
Genesis 10:24?

“24 Arpachshad became the father of Shelah, and Shelah became the father of Eber. 25 To Eber two sons were born: the name of the first was Peleg, for in his time the world was divided; and the name of his brother was Joktan.”

Where does it say there was only one continent? It says “the world was divided.” As usual, when a strange interpretation is offered, it’s best to read more.

Genesis 11,1:
“1 The whole world spoke the same language, using the same words. 2 While men were migrating in the east, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.”

Clearly, men were moving outward, dividing the world among them, the world itself was not dividing. By the way, “Peleg” is a misprint. His real name was “Pegleg.” He was the first man to try to take a wild boar by hand. http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon10.gif .

You are correct – carbon 14 dating is useful up to about 40,000 years. Carbon 14 dating depends on the fact that Carbon 14 is an unstable isotope, and has a half-life of about 5,700 years. Living substances take up carbon, including carbon 14. After death, the uptake stops, and by analyzing the amount of Carbon 14 present in an organic sample, an estimate of age can be made.

Beyond the limits of Carbon 14 there are other methods, some using isotopes of potassium and argon.

Sure there was only one land mass. Take away the Atlantic and bring the Americas to Europe and Africa and you have a very nice fit. Whole lot of shaking was going on. (sorry Jerry Lee)

At one time THERE was only one land mass (or so current continental drift theory says.) But by the time of Noah, the continents as they are now were formed.

Hmm. We only disagree as to when. Fun discussion, man. Gotta go and do some real work. See you tomorrow.

Maybe this will disprove evolution.
Yes, fantastic
There is now way soft tissue could last 70 million years and it sounds like perfect proof for the Literal Genesis account.
Many legends abound of man fighting dragons (dinosaurs)
God bless you cynics

There are legends of cyclopes, centaurs, men with one large foot (who lay on their backs and used it for shade), men with heads like dogs, and men with their heads in their stomachs.

You believe all that? http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

vern humphrey:
Does it have the Imprimateur or the Nihil Obstat? Are it’s pronouncements and positions sanctioned by bishops?

Remember, this is the CATHOLIC Church – laymen do not have the authority to lay out positions for the Church.

The present Pope said:

“In his Encyclical Humani generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII had already stated that there was no opposition between evolution and the doctrine of the faith about man and his vocation, on condition that one did not lose sight of several indisputable points (cf. AAS 42 [1950], pp. 575-576).”

Do you accept or reject that?
This talk by JP2 has been misrepresented before in another post. John Paul II was not making any declarations of faith to be held by the faithful, he is merely remarking on the many different theories that science has.
NO pope has rejected or overuled the Dogma promulgated by Leo XIII.
Some will believe in evolution at the expense of reason and truth. We must pray for them.
God bless

vern humphrey:
Wild hippos feed ashore, making trails through the brush from the water to their feeding grounds. A few years back, someone wrote an article about hunting hippos by waiting along one of those trails with a handgun.

Jeff Cooper (a man who is definitely not a pantywaist) commented that while it might be all right for some people, he couldn’t see doing it himself.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif
Sorry Vern. Doing “what” himself? Hunting Hippo or Wild Boar?

Hunting hippos in the long grass with a handgun. Jeff has hunted wild boar with a spear. On Guadalcanal, he hunted Japanese snipers with an '03 Springfield and an Unertel scope.
