**Scots are split exactly 50/50 on independence according to latest poll
Scots are split down the middle on independence.
And the findings of a survey of more than 1000 people – which showed exactly half would vote Yes in IndyRef2 and half No – will heap pressure on Nicola Sturgeon to call another referendum.
The poll, conducted by Ipsos MORI for STV, revealed a two per cent rise in support for independence as PM Theresa May prepares to trigger Britain’s exit from the European Union…
SNP Business Convener Derek Mackay said it was “no surprise” that support for independence had increased.
He added: “If the Tories’ hard Brexit obsession continues, the trend seen in this poll is only set to continue once Theresa May triggers Article 50.”**

It reminds me of our local school board when they want an increase in property tax. They just keep shoving it in front of the voters until they get the result they want.

Admittedly I am not versed enough in the culture of the UK to comment much,. but considering the long history I think it would be a shame if it went the way of Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia.

Wonder what “Deutschland uber alles” sounds like when sung with a Scottish accent. 😉

Deeper, more manly and way more menacing than when sung by Germans or other continentals, I’m sure 😉

But I would prefer to sing the actual, official EU Anthem, “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven!

When the Brexit bill was going through the House of Commons, the SNP members of Parliament disrupted the proceedings by humming loudly and then singing this anthem:

**SNP MPs sing EU anthem during crucial vote on whether Brexit should go ahead
Musical protest prompts Deputy Speaker to demand there is not ‘a sing-off in the Chamber’
Scottish National Party (SNP) MPs have been caught staging an unusual musical protest against Brexit as the House of Commons voted on whether Theresa May should be allowed to trigger Article 50.
A group of anti-Brexit MPs sang Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” while MPs filed through the division lobbies during the crucial vote. The song is the official anthem of the European Union.
The famous piece was composed by Beethoven in 1824 as part of his 9th Symphony and uses words from an earlier poem by Friedrich Schiller. It was adopted as the official EU anthem in 1972.
A small group of SNP MPs began whistling the tune as the Commons voted on the crucial third reading of the Government’s European Union Bill. As other MPs joined in, the whistling developed into humming and then outright singing, with one MP even standing in front of the SNP benches to conduct their colleagues.
The bizarre choral protest led Lindsay Hoyle, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, to intervene, yelling: “Order!”
Addressing Patricia Gibson, the MP for North Ayrshire and Arran, he added: “Ms Gibson, it’s very good that you’re the choir but what I would say is, I personally don’t mind singing but I certainly can’t allow it in the Chamber.**
Have a listen in at the link and tell me what you think! 😃

We’ll never be ruled by London…but Brussels is OK.
But that’s the thing, is it Berlin or Brussels? Berlin is the capital of the largest (by population) and most powerful member state, Brussels is the capital of the supranational governing institutions themselves. 😛

There seems to be a debate on CAF, amongst those with misgivings about the EU, as to which is in practice the more senior in authority within the EU. 😉

Telling, perhaps, that they didn’t adopt a tune from Debussy or Rossini. But I expect the EU members all know their places.

Will the Scots be changing to “Lederkilten” as a sort of transition measure anytime soon, one wonders.

Any idea why Americans seem to think that being in the EU equates with being ruled by Germany? At least there is some hope in that they seem to recognise that there are sovereign states within Europe…or do they? 😃

Of course we know that. Let’s see, there’s the “German Empire” (oops! that was before) “Greater Germany” (oops! that one too) then there’s the “Holy Roman Empire” (oh, yes, that’s in the past as well) and the “Habsburg Empire” (yes, yes, that’s previous as well)

Anyway, now they call it the Hanseatic League…er the EU. 🙂 No historic reason to think Germany tends to dominate the continent. 🙂 I don’t know why anyone would think it.

After the Scots join Germany, wonder what will happen to Elsass and Lothringen. 🤷
