Yes, I have heard the figure 4 to 6 BC for Jesus’ actual birthdate.
I only saw parts of the Dateline show, so I don’t know what their take on the matter was. I noticed they also had John Dominic Crossan as one of their other “experts.” He tends toward the liberal understanding of scriptural exegesis.
In order to understand WHY Jesus birth year is estimated to be other than 0000, you have to understand how it was calculated.

using Newtonian mechanics, scientists examined celestial events and planetary motions ect, and then worked backwards.

However, Newtonian mechanics was shown to be unable to account for about 9 seconds of one of jupiter’s moons, demonstrating there was a flaw or inaccuracy somewhere.

when Einstein published General and special Reletivity, it became clear that Newtonian mechanics are a special case of Einstein (very low velocities).

scientists were then able to recalculate the years of Jesus’ birth using Einstein’s theories. it came out to be 4-6 BC.

No hostility here. I actually like Scott Hahn. It is the liberal slant that Dateline will invariably put on the whole piece that makes me not watch.

Yes, that is very true. Often I get sucked into watching these programs only to be fuming by the time the credits roll! When will I learn??!!

I also think Scott is one of the great speakers and apologists of our church. His insight is wonderful, and I sure am glad he’s on our side. I have heard him and his wife’s conversion story many times, and I’m always fascinated by it. God bless him! We need more like him!
👍 I’ll second that!!!

John Dominic Crossan now there’s a guy who makes my skin crawl. He is on the top 5 list of Roman Catholic self-haters. He has totally convinced himself that he is blessed with special insight on all things Catholic.

AJC

Why the hostility towards Scott Hahn from the previous posts? Has he done something offensive?
It might be that he’s overdone and overexposed.

I wish we could hear MORE from him. Much more. Overexposed and overdone?? Now that is unkind. I don’t agree with that at all.
