I believe that “Satan” is very smart indeed, but I don’t know how we got around to talking about him.
Well, what does a snake do when you start to disturb its (foundation of truth) home. It strikes at what ever it is that is breaking away it’s home. There is no need to strike at Scott Hahn here at a Catholic forum. Unless he has done something to disturb ones (foundation of truth) nest. Metaphorically speaking:)

Oh wait, hold on a second! I think I see it now … the fact that NDfan criticized Dr. Hahn (posts #52 and #53) enabled you to conclude that Satan is attacking Dr. Hahn.

The logic is so obvious, I should have seen it before. :doh2:

Hahn is a multi-gizillionaire as you state as well OTCA. He’s made a fortune off his books. I think the appropriate term would be gazillionaire.
I doubt Hahn is a millionaire, much less a “multi-gizillionaire.” Books by theologians just don’t sell into the millions like “pop” psychologists and preachers - and it takes a LOT of books for a writer to become a millionaire.

I’ve heard Hahn lecture once - I didn’t agree with all his premises, but he’s a faithful and honest man, I think.

No disrespect intended but I think he’s an absolute IDIOT!!! His interpretations of scripture are so off base and I get tired of Catholics showcasing him as if all the sudden he’s this expert that can debunk the protestant movement.
He is only an idiot to you because he is a devout Catholic and was once a confused Protestant.

I’ll take it under advisement. (cf Alan Rickman)

I do hope you’ll weigh in over at the Should the Non-Catholic Religions Forum be abolished? thread (sorry it’s not a very good thread title). It pretty much hinges on the question of whether we Catholics should regard Protestantism and Eastern Orthodoxy as “other religions”.
To even add this comment, that Protestanism is not a different religion speaks in volumes about you not being Catholic. Because if you were a Catholic, you’d know why and where your church came from and wouldn’t possibly question it whatsoever. To think that Protestants and Catholics view the Eucharist as the same…tells me you need some research done. Perhaps reading the bible again.

Oh, right, how silly of me to have thought otherwise.
Boy, I REALLY like sarcasm as a tool for discussion and refutation.

We could discuss this if specifics were stated instead of generalities and attacks. The problem seems to be that the “authority” of personal interpretation is lacking in uniformity and cohesiveness, whereas the Catholic “oneness” of official interpretation isn’t. The meaning of Scripture to one or to another is different, but the official interpretation must be left to the official, authoritative body of the Church founded by Jesus on Peter. Scott Hahn is embraced for his humble acceptance of the truth of Catholic authority as well as his intellect in Biblical and religious studies. Follow the truth, form one’s conscience, and letting that lead you is the opposite of what the “Enemy” wants you to do. Scott has done this and is recognized for that fact. “Idiot” is so far from the love of Christ that it is a beacon calling out for repentance and conversion.

Maybe you need to think about your own Catholic faith and whether you are embracing all of it or just some of it, because…

…You’re on shaky ground doctrinally and historically to separate Protestants and Catholics into two separate religions - for they have far more similarities than differences when compared to Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. We are followers of Xριστός - Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic, Protestant, Dissenter. The fact that official Catholic documents call Protestants “separated brethern” makes it clear that we are members of the same family.

Or, to put it more colloquially - you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family.

Catholics and non-Catholics are Christians. Christianity is a religion.

I don’t always put stock in everything that Wikipedia posts. But this isn’t bad (other than the claim of Restorationists) - and a reminder where we are and where we ought to be. May we be One in Him.

Protestantism is a movement? 😉

Oh, Scott Hahn is the bomb! He has been truly instrumentl in my own journey from Protestantism to Catholicism (that I’m still in the middle of). I think he is a particularly good tool for protestants, since he really connects to and has experience with the same hesitancies and misunderstandings that we have about Catholicism. It just seems like it was easier to swallow the information from him rather than from a cradle Catholic apologist. Plus, he has a natural appreciation/respect for protestants, and so never comes across like he’s dragging them under the bus (a real turn-off).

Oh, he was PCA (presbyterian church of america). Same as me. Very Calvinist. A very nice, conservative denomination, by the way.

Catholics and Protestants ARE NOT THE SAME. Obviously. Catholics were the first Christians. Protestants hadn’t come around until the 15th century. They are DIFFERENT than Catholics. They DO NOT hold the truth but a half truth. Jesus DID NOT establish anything Protestant. Jesus WOULD NEVER go by what Protestants take as His Word interpreted according to THEM. Although they believe in Christ, THAT IS NOT ENOUGH to save them.
Therefore they are a DIFFERENT religion.

You need to read your Catechism.

Already read it. They are seperated brethren. I know all that, because if we were the same, there would be no fighting. Do you agree that they are not the same?

Can you provide something from a catechism or council that says protestants are a different religion? I think you are engaging in private interpretation.

I always called Protestants a religion just like a lot of people do. They are not the same as Catholics. What is all the fuss?
