Renowned Scottish composer James MacMillan has revealed that his Bellahouston Papal Mass came close to never seeing the light of day.

Mr MacMillan has said that Church liturgists tried to stop his Mass setting, which contributed to the moving celebrations on September 16, from being used during the Pope’s visit, claiming it was ‘un-singable,’ ‘not pastoral enough,’ and ‘not fit for purpose’ but that Scotland’s bishops intervened.

It`s about time these “liturgists” were given a kick in the teeth.

I have listened to some of the pieces from the Mass setting. I don’t know what would be “un-singable” about them.

I heard about this over at Father Z’s blog. Very interesting, and surprising, at least to me, that they would attempt to do something like that.
