The appeal of the two Scottish Catholic midwives who last year lost their court case against supervising abortion procedures started in the Court of Session in Edinburgh today and is expected to be heard over two days.
Midwifery sisters Mary Doogan, 57, and Concepta Wood, 51, (above), lost their case last year that being forced to supervise staff taking part in abortions violated their human rights.(Read more sconews.co.uk/news/24428/scottish-catholic-midwives-appeal-goes-to-court-next-week/)
The appeal is being heard by Lord Mackay, sitting with Lady Dorrian and Lord McEwan. The midwives counsel Gerry Moynihan QC today told the court that the case may go to the Supreme Court from either side after this week’s appeal.
