It is not so much that I left it, it is more that I never felt part of it . To do so would have just been pretence. One has to be true to oneself.
The ONLY reason to be “part of it”, april, is not how much you feel you belong, but whether it’s TRUE or not.

Be Catholic because it’s TRUE, not because it makes you feel good.

Fair point. My feeling even as a child was that it was not true and others were pretending or to use faith in the sense, of hope, they were hoping it was true. I can’t live a lie.
There is no evidence that it is true

Fair point, now, can we get back to the OP?
“Certainly there’s strong evidence to say some of the priests were out of control sexually, whether they be homosexual or heterosexual.

But, april, you don’t even know 10% of what the Catholic Church teaches, nor can you provide any apologia for what you do know.

The remaining 90% of what you claim is Catholicism is just plain wrong.

So it would behoove you to actually learn about what you left. It is good for you to be here and in dialogue with knowledgeable Catholics.

Can you guys please take the side argument with April elsewhere? It is confusing to follow along with the original discussion which is confusing enough as it is.

You are probably right, but there is more than one religion and it is difficult to determine, which is true, or are all of them true, or none of them.

At a basic level and when it first kicked in as a child is the notion that there exists an unprovable God, who knows and sees everything, is kind and powerful, but needs our unconditional love, yet he created us.

A man called Jesus, was crucified for us and rose from the dead - again no proof. As a child I could reason that a man could not rise from the dead and if the body was not in the tomb, then it was probably taken away buy someone. How people could suggest that Jesus rose from the dead, seems incredulous. I could not understand this human ‘sacrifice’.

Being around priests both as an altar boy and socially, I could not understand the whole behave ‘or else’ philosophy and the desire to control so many aspects of people’s lives’.
I felt very uncomfortable around them. The notions of heaven and heel and that we would go to one or other just seemed and still does a fantasy.

My brother went to be a priest and he felt it was like a cult, in that everyone seemed to toe a party line.

Again, here’s evidence of your poor catechesis.

The Catholic Church does NOT state that “there exists an unprovable God”. Rather, God’s existence can be proven through reason alone.

I will correct that - The Catholic Church believes in a God, whose existence can not be proven. This being a common position with other religions and their Gods.

No, april. God’s existence can be proven. By reason alone.

I really wish you had studied your faith before you left it.

I think saying you knew 10% of the faith was an over-estimation. :sad_yes:
