From the Haydock commentary. Those who deny the divinity of Christ are of the spirit of the antichrist and prefigure the great antichrist to come.

Ver. 3. That dissolveth Jesus, viz. either by denying his humanity or his divinity. (Challoner) — This is antichrist;[2] i.e. such is the spirit of antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, or is to come in the latter times. — And he is now already in the world, not the chief and great antichrist, but his precursors, in whom he may be said to come. (Witham) — And he is now already in the world. Not in his person, but in his spirit and in his precursors. (Challoner)
The devil’s ideas never sound outrageous or outlandish. There is always at least an element of truth in them - to attract. He uses the most sincere sounding and convincing spokespersons to promote his darkness, needing only that tiny bit of the lie to induce you to take just a half step off the path. After that, it’s easy.

i was spending the first summer in the small mountain town I had moved to. it was 2009. I had only been a convert to Catholicism for one year. there was an advertisement for a seminar for end times at the local university. I was babysitting my grandson during the da at the time and I thought this would be a nice evening breather away from a 2 1/2 year old.

when I arrived I was happy to see a few others from my local Catholic parish were also attending. the first night was interesting and I looked forward to the following night. the people seemed very nice. they had drawings for a Bible each evening. you were to fill out a piece of paper with your name and faith affiliation on it. one night a member from my church won the Bible and on the 3rd or 4th night I won one. I thought it was strange that 2 Catholics had won a Bible. then came the evening when they finally let it all out with their hatred for the Catholic Church. I was stunned. I couldn’t believe what they were saying. as another poster said, the Whore of Babylon was used. even though I was new to the faith, I had still studied for about 10 years before converting, so I didn’t believe a word of what they were trying to say. anyhow, I didn’t go back and I took the Bible I had won to the local used bookstore. so they definitely still preach anti-Catholicism.
I don’t know if SDA would be considered a cult or not, but I felt sorry for these people.
they were definitely misguided in their knowledge of Catholicism and the only thing I agreed with them was maybe how they believe in naturopathic medicine. but I really didn’t learn anything about the founder of SDA.

From what I hear they are considered to be a cult, if not borderline. Like I have posted my gf is a SDA, and she states that they are not hateful towards Catholics, but when you see their comments, and analyze them, there’s no other way to look at them but hateful.

Yes, they place much emphasis on the Book of Daniel & the Apocalypse of St. John…
…This isn’t in & of itself ISN’T a problem with the denomination.
…The problem is that they place MORE emphasis on THEIR interpretation of those Books.

Because Ellen’s husband and all of his friends were Arian in theology…
…Ellen was required to repudiate her Methodist background.
…And started to gloat that God could have annihilated Christ had that creature sinned!

Po 18guy NAILED it with the Scirpture he quoted…
…Past that our Creed, which systematizes Scripture is very clear from the documents.

That Part of the Creed
And whosoever shall say that there was a time when the Son of God was not (ἤν ποτε ὅτε οὐκ ἦν), or that before he was begotten he was not, or that he was made of things that were not, or that he is of a different substance or essence [from the Father] or that he is a creature, OR **subject to change ** OR conversionall that so say, the Catholic and Apostolic Church anathematizes them.

Look at the Synodal Letter attached to the documents of the Creed.
investigation was made of matters concerning the impiety and transgression of Arius and his adherents; and it was unanimously decreed that he and his impious opinion should be anathematized, together with the blasphemous words and speculations in which he indulged, blaspheming the Son of God, and saying that he is from things that are not, and that before he was begotten he was not, and that there was a time when he was not, AND that the Son of God is by his free will capable of VICE and virtue; saying also that he is a creature. All these things the holy Synod has anathematized, not even enduring to hear his impious doctrine and madness and blasphemous words. And of the charges against him and of the results they had, you have either already heard or will hear

Make no mistake - SDA’s gloat that Christ could have sinned and failed…
…And if that had in fact happened the real God would have roasted creature Christ.
…Also it is taught that after God had destroyed creature christ.
…He would become as if he never existed in the first place.

This is part of their total annihilation of man Doctrine…
But like I have stated here before, if your ever in a situation were your in a debate with them bring up the Contraception and Abortion issue. Their church supports both actions. My gf knew that her church accepted contraception, but not the abortion. As we were reading the Bible, one day here on a CAF a former SDA member stated that the SDA supported abortion and put a link, so that evening when we read I told her tell me what you think this position held by this church is in your opinion. I read her church position without telling her what church it was, she said that’s wrong their going against the Bible. I told her I got that information from your church. It shocked her.

I think SDA’s believe that infants are not really people and at the age of baptism they evolve into real people…
…It has something to do with their belief against infant baptism.
…I.E. an infant doesn’t know anything therefore baptism is worthless for them.
…Therefore abortion, if practiced against an infant prior to it becoming “aware” is simply a medical event.

In my view this is no different than Hitler and “his right to choose”…
…Because he didn’t view the Jews as “people” he believed he had a right to cull them.
…So to the SDA’s believe they have a right to cull babies.

This is interesting of course in that :

a) The bible says that “whole households” were baptized
b) Infants are members of a household (logic)

Therefore, from the bible alone, we can reason that infants were baptized. The writings of the Church in the 2nd and 3rd century also testify to this, including that the practice of baptizing infants was handed down from the apostles, in keeping with the OT practice of circumcision.

If that is their opinion or stance I just have one word WOW!!

Especially the part of abortion, we can have a field day with that topic with just the bible about how a baby in the womb Is a human being, there’s hundreds of texts that tell you straight forward that the baby in the womb is a human being.

There stance against infant baptism is so mind boggling. I mean why did God tell Abraham to first circumcise the males by the 8th day after their birth. It was a covenant and those little boys did not get a word in the issue, it was done because of their parents faith. Which is what the Church teaches about infant baptism.

SDAs call this stealth evangelism. They usually hold these ‘prophecy seminars’ in hotel meeting rooms and do not identify who they are until the seminar is nearly over with. They are almost never held at an SDA church.

I would call it stealth proseletysing.

Even their cable tv channel 3ABN does not explicitly state that they are SDA.

“Arian Broadcasting Network”…
…All Adventist groups are “Arian”.
…JW’s / SDA’s / Christadelphian / WWCOG.

👍 I am glad you posted this as I forgot to include this. they did not identify themselves as to a particular faith. I believe I asked them the first or second night, but since I did not know very much about SDA I had no clue as to what was to come. I believe the final 2 nights they finally met at their SDA meeting room or church here in town. by that time, people who were put off by their teaching had stopped attending. I never did really hear anything about the end times. I would definitely call it stealth proselytizing.

It really means three angels broadcast network. Apparently it come from somewhere in the book of Daniel or other.

I watch it once in a while when they broadcast things about veganism and health foods. I was raised in a family that owned a health food store.

SDAs own Worthington Industries that makes a lot of soy based faux meat products. But not all their products are healthy for people with heart problems, they have a ton of sodium.
