Call me naive…but, Mr. Hannity was accused of a GRAVE MORAL SIN…right? I think that he intentionally said (not deflected)…The Church has allowed GRAVE MORAL SIN to be covered up via the sexual abuse scandal involving priests. I heard him say, I think it would be better to focus on correcting that TERRIBLE sin that has the potential to ruin the Church than to focus on one man’s opinion of ABC for non-Catholics. Priests are accountable…more accountable to God than news anchorman. I personally still say the whole mess should have never gone this far…with Sean or Father E. The folks on this forum may ‘like’ Father E but his web-site is loaded w/ information trashing Mr Hannity…okay how is that Christ-like??? How did Jesus Christ treat the woman at The Well??? HE treated her w/ dignity and love and truthfulness…how did He treat Peter when he stumbled and denied Him?..with restoration…I hope the end of the Fox story is a restoration story.
Do you recall the time Jesus went into the temple and quite angrily turned over the tables…maybe He should have acted more pc?

Sean is a very public figure who likes to tout his faatih, and yet he also very openly dissents with Church teachings regarding birth control, not just for non-Catholics, but he has proclaimed he does not agree with the Church on that matter. He also brags about going to seminary, studying Catholic theology and that he is a devout Catholic. Devout Catholics do not dissent from formal Church teachings. He was completely wrong to attack the good Father about sex abuse because that Priest has nothing to do about the crisis other then to help his fellow Priests stay away from sin…it was a sign of Sean’s guilty conscience that he tried to change the subject away towards a different problem, it is called bait and switch and Hannity is a pro at using that tactic.

okay, but when I am judged…and I will be judged…I am siding with the God side who says ‘mercy is greater than judgement’. As I said, many in the forum will disagree…but the website is not merciful…hmmm…read it, maybe you ‘go’ for that kind of thing. And, many things rock the foundation of God’s children…DEFINITELY abuse…and there is no acuse for abuse (I think you seem to make an excuse for the ‘predators’)…perhaps, I was just raised in a Catholic home (I’m sure not perfcct) where I was taught that life as a Christian was about forgiveness and reconciliaton and even Catholics make HUGE mistakes…but ‘trashing’ sinners was not the LORD’S teaching method and not what I was raised to engage in. ‘Trashing’ or associating with people (even catholics) who need to resort to this behavior is not Christ-like…so I will keep that ‘wisdom’ .

I am not in disagreement about the need to address the stated moral issues…I also HAVE to say that early sexual experiences, and most definitelty! abortion also rocks the foundation of God’s people and hurts the sinner tremendously (dont forget the baby goes directly to the Lord) And lest we forget that many many catholic women have chosen abortion w/ catholic mens approval…I work with youth and face the consequesces of these sins daily…and I do it in a catholic agency…we extend grace and mercy…I wish I could take ‘the forum’ to work w/ me…I think your perspective of life might change…I find that people who are in some way ‘broken’ are won back to God (and the Church) by love and mercy…not by harshness…and I do not work w/ priest who are harsh…I work w/ priest who extend mercy…This is a complex problem… but again…I hope for reconciliation and the website isnt calling anyone ‘home’…God Bless
Jesus spoke often about sins and the consequence of sins. The Bible (Jesus’s Word) also tells us we must admonish the sinner in order to help save his soul. Jesus Himself turned over the tables in the Temple because of the abuse there…not exactly the soft touch there. The entire notion that Jesus was all about love and forgiveness and not about correcting sinners is simply false and it is a notion that is wrecking our culture.

The use of the sex abuse crisis by Hannity simply reveals his convicted conscience, he would not address his dissent with the Church, so he tried to change the subject…typical tactic of bait and switch, sort of like when gays attacks straights about marriage saying that straights have such a high divorce rate, it’s bait and switch in order to take the light off personal sins.

Oh how true this is! But unfortunately there are those who wish to simply deny that so they can continue to live the way they choose and not God’s way.

Yes, including Sean Hannity.
Oh most definately Sean Hannity, the more I think about what happened with Fr E being on his show the more I pray that it opens up his eyes and his heart. If there was ever a time that the cliche a “Blessing in disguise” was ever to fit it is now for Hannity.

I agree, sadly Sean does not.

A revealing characteristic and reaction of one caught with the hand in the cookie jar is to point the finger outward in blame and accusation.

…ABC for non-Catholics.
ABC should be avoided by ALL people including non-Catholics. That is what Fr. E. was trying to tell Sean. Catholics should believe in everything the Church teaches because that is what Jesus and the Apostles taught.

Fr. E. is NOT “trashing” Hannity. He is trying to inform Sean so he won’t keep in his sin. How is that Christ-like? Fr. E. is showing Sean Hannity mercy. He is trying to protect Sean from going deeper into his sin. When Jesus healed people it was not only a physical healing it was a spiritual healing from sin. You have to remember that Jesus said, “…go and sin no more.”

… but ‘trashing’ sinners was not the LORD’S teaching method and not what I was raised to engage in.
As I said before, Fr. E. was not “trashing” Sean Hannity.

“associating” with people who “resort to this behavior” is Christ-like 😃 because Christ hung out with sinners. 😛

And again, Fr. E. did not “trash” Sean.

…I work with youth and face the consequesces of these sins daily…and I do it in a catholic agency…we extend grace and mercy…
How in the world are you extending grace? Only God can extend Grace through the Passion of His Son Jesus Christ.

I have read this discussion with great interest. We watch Hannity and Colmes every night and I did see the interview with the priest. I was actually pretty shocked by the whole interview, because we are in the process of conversion. Having always been a protestant, and making a rather unpopular decision to convert, I really have admired those Catholics in the media who were good examples (for the most part.)

The Catholic Church is not the only church who holds to the teaching that artificial birth control is wrong. I was raised in a Protestant church which also teaches the same thing, although for a years, I did as I pleased. My rationalization was that of Sean’s – better to use contraception than abortion. It doesn’t make it right.

I have REPENTED for going my own way and practicing birth control methods for my own convenience. I would not think of taking the Eucharist prior to making this sin right. Honestly, I would fear for my health and life if I took the Lord’s supper unworthily.

At first, I thought Sean was merely making the point that not all believers have been taught the truth as Catholics have been taught–not stating that he thought it was proper for Catholics to use birth control. (Still not sure on this issue.) If he was making the point that Protestants ignorantly practice birth control and are not intentionally and knowingly committing sin, thereby not completely responsible, then that was one thing. If he believes that it is alright for Catholics to pick and choose what doctrines they will obey and which they will disobey, than that is another.

I respect the Fr. for making it clear that he cannot change his position on church teaching. He cannot do that. I believe even Protestants would have to respect that he would not “bend” the ordinances of the church under any circumstances. The church also will not allow a Protestant Christian to take the Eucharist, based on the fact that they are really not in complete union with the teachings of the Catholic church. That is not to say that other Protestants are not true believers, but because they are not truly in UNION with the church–thereby it wouldn’t even be commUNION, would it?

If a lifelong Protestant who is converting can understand that the priest must hold to the church teachings, why can’t Sean? Nearly all my friends and family are still Protestant, and they actually think that the priest is to be admired to having stood up for what he professes to believe–even if they disagree in the first place. I assure you, there are many Protestants who disagree with Sean’s lack of respect for his spiritual leader.

The show didn’t sway me one bit from going on with my conversion process. I am still very repentant that I took my life into my own hands and thought I could make it better. Since converting, I have lost my son. My heart just aches, wondering how many children the Lord may have WANTED me to have.

I now think I just played “god” over my own life. I gladly submit to the teachings of the church now. A few scandalous priests do not change the truth.

You’re absolutely right.

It seems as if Sean is guilty of this ABC sin so he says that he doesn’t believe in it. I’m not saying that he is guilty of that sin but it sure seems like it. It seems as if the ones who are guilty of using ABC try to use excuses to say that it is not a sin.

I think that you may be on to something. After the birth of his daughter I remember Sean saying on the air when asked about more kids in the future, Sean said that he and his wife “were done”.

I agree, it seems that way. Of course we do not know for sure, but he did get very defensive and that is typically a sign of guilt.

All Protestant churches before 1930 taught this.

For years I didn’t even know the Church taught anything on ABC. When I found out I ran to Confession even though I had stopped using it for years before I confessed it. I just didn’t know the Church even had a stance on it. 😊

So have I and Jesus forgives and forgets! Thank you Jesus!

I believe there are Protestants who think this way. I just wish there were more.

I am so sorry about your son. I hope and pray that he is in Heaven with Jesus. May perpetual light shine upon him and may his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/Alegre-Fe/Emoticons/Pray.gif Amen.

Don’t beat yourself up about it. I don’t think you are. But all I can say is, TRUST in Jesus Christ. His Mercy is greater than any sin you can commit, as long as you Trust in Jesus.

This is so true. No one should ever leave Jesus on account of Judas. If a person loves Jesus Christ they should also love His Church and therefore look for His Church and they will find it right here, the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Oh my … 😦 We need to pray for Sean Hannity, just in case. :gopray2:

You’re right, :nope: we don’t know for sure. But his defensiveness tells a lot.
And it wouldn’t hurt to pray for him :gopray2: because you never know.
We all need to pray for each other as we are all sinners. 😦

Prayer is always good. 🙂
