Sebelius nomination ‘source of greatest embarrassment,’ Archbishop Burke says

San Diego, Calif., Mar 14, 2009 / 06:08 am (CNA).- Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services is “sad” and “the source of greatest embarrassment” because she has repeatedly betrayed her Catholic faith through her “well known” support for legal abortion, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke has commented.

The archbishop, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, is now Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. His duties in that office include ensuring that the Church operates correctly under canon law.

In a written interview with Thomas J. McKenna of Catholic Action for Faith and Family, Archbishop Burke remarked that the governor’s nomination to President Barack Obama’s Cabinet “saddens me on several scores.”

My understanding is she was told privately not to present herself for communion and she disobeyed the bishop. After this happened he had to make the fact she disobeyed a direct demand public

If he wouldn’t have pushed the issue she might still be receiving, clearly she didn’t respect his quiet words to her about it

You could well be right. I have forgotten the particulars. Archbishop George Niederauer of SFO may have had that private conversation with Pelosi, but so far no backbone in public declarations. So hurray for Naumann.

I cannot understand how pride can so blind an individual. Eternity depends on their response.

I know Archbishop Burke is one of the good guys. But the question remains, how much longer are we going to have to put up with this? Expressing embarrassment is not strong enough. These Catholic traitors need to be dealt with, not only for their own good, but for the good of the flock, and the good of the babies.

Sebelius and those like her have powerful influences that damage the faithful with their open disobedience to the Church. It is very important that the Church strongly states that they are not following the precepts of their faith.

We should pray for her conversion.

Maybe they could take a lesson from Joe Clark (Morgan Freeman in the movie Lean on Me (on BET over the weekend)…I used to sing my kids to sleep with that song), the Patterson NJ principal who was hired to turn around an inner city school taken over by gang bangers and drug dealers. The first thing he did was gather all of these jerks up in front of the rest of the student body, and kick 'em all out. The sweet Kaneesha, speaking for the rest of the student body who had been terrorized by these jerks, with a big grin on her face, said “That Mr. Clark, he don’t play.” A mom of one the expelled, Leonna Barrett is trying to get Joe fired. A great scene at the end of the movie has her up on the steps of city hall with a megaphone trying to talk to the student body who had come down to protest the jailing of Mr Clark for chaining the doors of the school closed while school was in session to keep the gangsters out…a fire code violation. The kids weren’t listening. One of them, a class clown type, goes up the steps, seemingly to help Ms Barrett, takes the megaphone, gets the kids to quiet down and finishes with “Let the loudmouth wench talk.” It’s a very inspiring movie about turning a bad situation around. The bishops have to get tough. Some, like Ms Barrett, won’t like it and throw up resistence. Others, like Kaneesha, will appreciate the feeling of being freed from the terror.

You’re talking about the 100 who came out and gave leadership aren’t you? For the rest, big prayers need to be offered.

I am talking about all of those who are on the side of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. I am talking about those who believe in absolutes, not excuses. I am talking about those care more about God’s laws than all inclusive morality. Those who say that abortion and homosexual marriage are intrinsically evil.

And I cry inside because the question of which side I was talking about in reference to Roman Catholic Bishops and where they stand even had to be asked.

Dear Jesus N Cherie. I have been crying on the inside since before this past election. I saw that approximatelly 100 of our Bishops (May God protect them) out of 300 came forward to give clear and explicit direction, to any who would listen, that voting for Obama was not in the best interest of saving their souls. These are brave men that I admire and would follow if I were in any of their dioceses. For the rest who did not speak out, or if they did so, spoke faintly, and or those who still allow Catholics who hold office in this administration and who support abortion, to receive the Holy Eucharist, I fear their retribution and that of those who follow them will, in the end, be horrendous.
