=Prodigal Son1;10011964]What implications has been discussed? A sovereignty without a military.
Just like Japan and some EU nations. Does the same standard apply to them?
No federal assistance in the face of a disaster.
Insurance can be useful, and how did we ever survive all those years before FEMA? Which along with the now politically motivated Red Cross is doing a horrible, horrible job just like after Katrina.
Adverse immigration laws.
Border security does not have to be adverse to immigration.
An immediate loss of employment by all federal employees.
What do you think will happen once the dollar is dumped by the rest of the world?

Those countries have military in place. A newly formed government would have none. They would even lose their National Guards. A state that left protection of the nation could become a breeding ground for terrorists.

What would post Katrina have been like with no federal assistance? Oh, and you’d be at the mercy of insurance companies.
Border security does not have to be adverse to immigration.
I don’t know if people would be allowed to freely move across the borders into the US. Secession removes your citizenship, and you know there’s a faction in the US who would love to stop all immigration.

It might well lose value, but not as low as a new third world country.šŸ˜›

I’m sorry, but this just strikes me as ā€œI didn’t get what I wanted so I’m going to take my toys and go home!ā€

I remember my liberal friends going off the deep end when GW Bush won a second term and I told them the same thing: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose-character is in how you handle it when life doesn’t go your way.

Thats not the only reason.

There is no way a a state separated from us could possibly survive as anything other than a third world country. It would be disastrous. To discuss this is madness, and the people in the states advocating for secession are deluded.

I have thought of this comparison. Michael Moore was among those who said he was going move out of the country.🤷

I have discussed this issue before Obama and would have the same opinion regardless of who won this time. Let’s face it. It simply is not practical and is not going to happen. Might really does make right in this world. I am just glad it is mot my home.

It would be easy for a liberal to find another country to go to, but American conservatives would have a tough time. I guess that’s why they want to form their own country. 🤷

Are these glib, arrogant dismissals (see ā€œdisastrous,ā€ ā€œmadness,ā€ ā€œdeludedā€) supposed to self-proving?

Waiving the ā€œWe’re #1ā€ finger just doesn’t cut it. Consider that the United States is not in the top ten prosperous countries (measured by GDP per capita) and that many of the richest are quite small, i.e. Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Bermuda, Singapore, Jersey. Certainly they are not disasters.

I would add that if I and my fellow Missourians would rather be free than rich, what is that to you, as long as we leave you alone? Are you trying to persuade us? Or are you actually willing to invade and murder us to prevent us from leaving?

Huh? ā€œWe’re the #1 fingerā€? I’m not saying we’re ā€œnumber 1ā€ of anything. I think we have as many problems as everybody else does. What I’m saying is that secession will not succeed. It’s ridiculous to consider. Make of that what you will.

would it be murder under the Constitution ? or would it be putting down an insurrection, that i would have no problem with at all.

I was actually just talking about this with some friends in my department the other day. All of us agreed that if we ever tried to leave the union the ā€œAmericansā€ would just bomb us into oblivion lol. Map would look purdy empty without Texas. My former home of Alabama would probably leave if had the chance…but thats just the opinion of the family…and everyone else I’ve talked to there…one of my friends compared whats going on right now to the movie Red Dawn, thought it was kinda funny

Maybe people are tired of getting kicked around from a powerful government? If they do want to leave its their choice.

If you want to call my peacefully walking away from you ā€œinsurrectionā€ā€“and use that as an excuse to kill me–you are a murderer. If that is what you are, then of course you ā€œwould have no problem with it at all.ā€ Neither did Lincoln.

:clapping: Not all of us want to stay on the sinking ship but some will not let you off the boat.

Ok, the West Coast and North East will form our own country. We will have most of the water, NYC, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and LA along with Yosemite and Big Sur. we will have the Silicon Valley and Apple and will happily take gay people too. Between them, CA and NY will form the worlds 7th biggest economy. We will have Stanford, Harvard, Yale and Princeton AND Vegas!
And the rest of flyover country will have oil and refineries to make gasoline (which leftists hate with a passion so they won’t have any in their states) and we also have all this nice agriculture. Try to live without food or oil/gas. I challenge you.
Do you see how stupid this all sounds? We are 1 big country made up of many different people with different points of view.
No, we have one point of view (leftism) imposing its viewpoint on the rest of the nation using the power of government. There is no tolerance of differing points of view. And you proved it by calling people who disagree with leftism ā€œracistsā€ and ā€œbigotsā€ You demonize people for having a different opinion! You declare people to be evil for having a different opinion! ā€œHow dare you think different! I will call you names and demonize you!!!ā€ is what you are saying.
WE ARE A MELTING POT! The genius and magic of the USA is our acceptance of diversity. šŸ‘
We are not a melting pot.

We have one group of people (leftists) seeking to impose their beliefs on others by using the government to do so.

Zero tolerance of diversity, MOST ESPECIALLY when the opinion is disagreeing with leftists.

If people can leave any lawfully elected government whenever they wish, then what authority does the government even have?
