Second man accuses Foley priest of sex abuse

Why is there not a big hue and cry about organizations like NAMBLA. The press has certainly declared that pedophilia reaches up to 16 year olds. Pray for all victims.

I was a 10 yr. old kid at the time who had not even been told yet about the birds and the bees.
I struggled with the priest for 5-10 mins. until a classmate came and helped pull me away from him.

All I have is my vivid memory of this incident which has never changed throughout the years…what sort of evidence do you suggest I come up with?

Could it be that this problem is more wide spread than we would like to believe? If it is, why? In my opinion, child abuse is pretty much accross the board. It involves priests, ministers, policemen, teachers, family members, and just about all kinds of people. If it involves a priest, it seems to make bigger headlines. This is getting to be a very cruel, wicked world.

No reason for you to apologize! But thank you anyways.
I spent time in my teens being angry…well, I can still get angry at times.
But I think the fact it was a rather brief encounter that I never experienced again accounts for the fact I’ve been able to lead a normal life and remain in the Church.
Unfortunately - our parish had 2 child molesting priests. The other priest was molesting male classmates of my older sisters, and then later male classmates of mine.
They seem to have suffered much more damage than I have as it was repetitive abuse over a long period of time.

Yes…definitely. Of course - why would we want to believe it until it knocks us over the head?

Many abusers were abused. Some allow alcohol/drug addiction to lower their inhibitions with children.
Pornography…and recently the prevalance of internet porn probably isn’t helping matters.
Our society has become totally obsessed with sex.

The scandal in the schools is probably much greater, but the MSM is more reluctant to paint teachers in a bad light.
A note of warning to parents…watch out for the photographers who take pictures of your kids at sporting events, school events…or of kids anywhere.
I’ve come across 2 incidents in our area where perverts chose this line of work.

Probably for 2 reasons. For a long time priests were considered above reproach - no one ever questioned a priest or their conduct.
They were considered to be very close to God and it might have seemed blasphemous to some people to even consider the thought they could do such a thing.

On the other end of the spectrum you have anti-catholic attitudes which seemed to be reinforced by the scandal. People who suspected catholicism was evil and so they could point to tangible “evidence” that it is.
With the secular media, it was an opportunity to paint another group of christians as a bunch of hypocrites.

For whatever reasons behind the news coverage - I’m personally thankful the truth finally came out.
Our Church can only clean up its act if it can first locate the dirt.
It’s been painful and ugly…but hopefully the Church will emerge cleansed, and children will be safer.

It is sad to think back on my childhood, and how many kids were molested in our town, and I’ve realized the most dangerous place in our town for children was the local catholic church.
Thankfully - that is no longer true.
