I havent been paying attention to the secular media of recent. Are any outlets sending reporters to Rome? Will any outlet be covering it?
Yes, the Fox News Channel will be covering it this Sunday at 4am: foxnewsinsider.com/2014/04/25/moody-pope-francis-uniting-liberal-and-conservative-catholics-historic-canonizationI havent been paying attention to the secular media of recent. A Chicago TV station has sent a reporter to the Vatican, and on the local news we got to see her interviewing a member of SNAP right in St. Peter’s Square, and of course the SNAP person had to say that John Paul II doesn’t deserve to be canonized because of how the clerical abuse scandal was handled. And that’s what they consider balanced reporting.
Huh? I don’t understand what she’s getting at. And I certainly am not going to be putting much stock in what Peggy Noonan thinks was going on in Pope John Paul II’s head.
I loved how Peggy Noonan put the abuse scandal in the context of JPii’s personal history of having lived his early years in Nazi occupied Poland and that Communist Poland and how both persecuted not only the Church, but murdered Her priests. I think Noonan said something like 25% of Poland’s priests died under the Nazi’s.
She said something along the lines of when you think of it in that context, he was blinded by his own history and his first thought was “oh here we go again” thinking it was all false.
Now THAT is balanced reporting.
