I havent been paying attention to the secular media of recent. Are any outlets sending reporters to Rome? Will any outlet be covering it?

Our local ABC affiliate says that they are going to broadcast it live, but since I don’t get my Catholic news from secular sources, I am going to skip it and watch EWTN instead. The Wall Street Journal had a picture on the front page this morning of “two student priests” carrying a picture of both saints somewhere in the Vatican. They might have someone there and will print a story for Monday morning.

MSNBC will also be covering it from 4 - 6 am. I would assume CNN is also going to cover it.

Couldn’t find much on this in the UK. The BBC is on its usual anti-Catholic campaign so I will watch EWTN, at least their reporters know what they are talking about.

A Chicago TV station has sent a reporter to the Vatican, and on the local news we got to see her interviewing a member of SNAP right in St. Peter’s Square, and of course the SNAP person had to say that John Paul II doesn’t deserve to be canonized because of how the clerical abuse scandal was handled. And that’s what they consider balanced reporting.

I loved how Peggy Noonan put the abuse scandal in the context of JPii’s personal history of having lived his early years in Nazi occupied Poland and that Communist Poland and how both persecuted not only the Church, but murdered Her priests. I think Noonan said something like 25% of Poland’s priests died under the Nazi’s.

She said something along the lines of when you think of it in that context, he was blinded by his own history and his first thought was “oh here we go again” thinking it was all false.

Now THAT is balanced reporting.

Huh? I don’t understand what she’s getting at. And I certainly am not going to be putting much stock in what Peggy Noonan thinks was going on in Pope John Paul II’s head.
I really hope she doesn’t mean to imply that the sex abuse scandal was somehow trivial as compared to Nazi oppression - how insensitive and ignorant that would be!
