remember there also exists the universal ordinary magisterium,
You’re right, but… it includes faith and morals. No problem with the faith part. And personally, no problem (I don’t think) with the morals part. However: That’s what the big kerfluffle about the Synod of the Family was about. Do individuals have a right (a duty, even) to depart from the magisterium in certain circumstances? Cardinals Burke, Muller, etc. say no. But another group of cardinals say yes. It’s not as clear cut as either side would like it to be. I would even come down on the Burke/Muller side. However, I also see the need for exceptions, which I’m sure they do to–they just don’t want to codify the exceptions. Don’t want to debate this–there’s no “winning” argument since the cardinals themselves couldn’t agree. I just want to point out the “Yes, but…” element.

It’s the magisterium, how could anyone have a right (or duty!) to depart from it?

While the SSPX is not in full communion with the Catholic Church they are not sedevacantists per se. they at least recognize that there is a pope and while they may not agree with him they at least recognize him for who he is.
Sedevacantists are those who will tell you that because of Vatican II there is no Pope governing the Catholic Church and there hasn’t been one since Pope Pius XII.

Conscience.

A good summary in the light of the Synod of the Family:

or Cardinal Avery Dulles (If you are in Venezuela–God help you–then you might not know Avery Dulles (now dead). His father was John Foster Dulles, the Sec. of State under Eisenhower in the 1950s, and his uncle was Allen Dulles, head of the CIA, who planned the Bay of Pigs in Cuba.)

The SSPX organization officially rejects sedevacantism. Individuals in it however take a wide range of positions in terms of how much we should be influenced by the current Pope and bishops. Apparently for some members in it those positions change over time. Some move in the direction of Rome (sedevacantism dropping), a few move towards the Resistance (sedevacantism rising).

Sedevacantism isn’t an all or nothing position.
