Hi all -

I grew up in a very humanist household. Yet, somehow a friend or relative gave me or my older brother a wonderfully illustrated book of Bible stories for children. Because I was craving God and Jesus, I poured over that book for many hours over many years of my childhood. I have the drawings memorized, and remember most of the stories.

My parents were divorced when I was 12 and my whole family went our separate ways and set up new households. Clothes and books from childhood were given away to Goodwill and to library fundraiser sales. I lost track of my book of Bible stories.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to go about finding another copy? I have hardly any information to go on. I would absolutely recognize the book if I saw the inside, but I don’t remember the name, the publisher, the year it might have been published, or even what the cover looked like. Here is all I know; It had both Old and New Testament stories, was hardcover, about the size of a Land’s End catalog, and probably was published in the 1950’s or very early 1960’s.

Any suggestions or ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks all! Oh - please learn my my mistake: *** Keep ***your children’s Bible story books!

Funnily enough I picked up a Catholic children’s Bible full of great pictures a year or so ago in a thrift store.

You could try just looking it up online OR try Fleabay and see whether anyone’s selling a copy. 😃

Hi all -

Does anyone have any ideas of how to go about finding another copy? I have hardly any information to go on. I would absolutely recognize the book if I saw the inside, but I don’t remember the name, the publisher, the year it might have been published, or even what the cover looked like. This is a good start. Try to think of as many other details as you can - such as, when you say “size of a Land’s End catalog” do you mean in all three dimensions? Or was your book thick, for example? What color was the cover, if you recall? Were there illustrations on every page or one per story? Was the paper shiny/glossy or flat?

I’m guessing the illustrations were color but were they soft-colored or bright? (Or am I wrong? There were a couple of children’s Bibles that had pen-and-ink illustrations. . . )

The Golden Children’s Bible came out with several different covers over the years. But there were so many pther versions! This could become a wonderful quest, in which you check out used book shops, each time looking for the book that leaps off the shelf and presents itself, matching your memories. (you can probably tell I’ve done this a lot . . . )😉
