I agree. One of the things we Protestants could do a better job with. That accountability (and the shame that people naturally feel from knowing that someone else knows what they’ve done) is a big step for many in being able to resist sin in the future.
I appreciate your candor. I don’t say those kind of things as a “gotcha” moment. I defend Confession because of how very good it feels when you’re done, and you know without a shadow of a doubt that you’re forgiven and doing your best. We all fall over and over, and getting up can be so hard, but it feels really, really good to be on your feet again.I agree. One of the things we Protestants could do a better job with.
Doesn’t have to when He sticks closer than a brother. He usually doesn’t show up on command
Can you explain this further? What do you mean?Doesn’t have to when He sticks closer than a brother.
“Little children…ye know all things…ye have an unction from the Holy One…”God gave us the means to KNOW we’re forgiven through His priests
God is always with you, He doesn’t have to be summoned when He’s never goneCan you explain this further? What do you mean?
Ah, so kids know everything they need to know about being holy? No lessons from their parents needed?“Little children…ye know all things…ye have an unction from the Holy One…”
Ah, so we don’t need to pray then, right? God sees everything that everyone needs and doesn’t want anyone else to intercede, right?God is always with you, He doesn’t have to be summoned when He’s never gone
God is always with you, He said He will never leave you. He wants you to pray to Him. And we are allowed to speak directly to God, (actully) with the Holy Spirit who interceded for us.Ah, so we don’t need to pray then, right? God sees everything that everyone needs and doesn’t want anyone else to intercede, right?
Then why did Jesus give the Apostles the ability to forgive sin in His name?God is always with you, He said He will never leave you. He wants you to pray to Him. And we are allowed to speak directly to God, through the Holy Spirit.
This can also be done per James 5…confess one to another…to help each other out, as you nicely describeGenerally speaking, it’s a better idea for someone who has a continuing problem with a specific sin to see the same priest as much as possible when they confess, so that the priest has a better idea of what they continually struggle with and so better help them out
There’s nothing in James 5 about just anyone being able to forgive those sins, however. You can tell someone that you broke out a neighbor’s window, but that doesn’t do anything to fix the window. This can also be done per James 5…confess one to another…to help each other out, as you nicely describe
Because Jesus wants us to confess our sin out loud, He also knows some of us need that human connection to do something that can be very hard to do. You are still confessing to God and God is still the only one who can trully forgive your sins. Then why did Jesus give the Apostles the ability to forgive sin in His name?
Aaaah, so the forgiveness of sin DOES need to come from someone whom Jesus gave authority to!Because Jesus wants us to confess our sin out loud, He also knows some of us need that human connection to do something that can be very hard to do.
Sure. That’s why He made sure that we have priests who have the authority to forgive us by His power. You are still confessing to Hod and God is still the on km y one who can trully forgive your sins.
The priest isnt forgiving you… God is… that’s already been established.Sure. That’s why He made sure that we have priests who have the authority to forgive us by His power.
Ayup. But you said yourself we have to confess to a person, and God very nicely made it so the person we’re confessing to can forgive sins in His name, by His power. That’s a priest. The priest isnt forgiving you… God is… that’s already been established.
Not what I said.Aaaah, so the forgiveness of sin DOES need to come from someone whom Jesus gave authority to!
It’s what your logic arrives at, though. Not what I said.
Again not what I said.Ayup. But you said yourself we have to confess to a person, and God very nicely made it so the person we’re confessing to can forgive sins in His name, by His power. That’s a priest.
