Additionally for myself, I was in search of characteristics unique to the true church and no other Christian church.

I did not find what I was seeking from the Anglican, Presbyterian, and of course Catholicism.

I have never been happier and more spiritually full than I am today.

Kind regards.

Ven Fulton Sheen was a remarkable disciple of Our Lord. I have had the privilege of being on the periphery of his cause for canonization and attended the Mass of thanksgiving after (now emeritus) Pope Benedict xvi declared him venerable.

I highly recommend any of his many books and writing to others.

For those who remember him, it’s most likely thru his “Life is worth living” series. But he did so much more after than, especially when he was a “retired” bishop. He went around the country doing priests retreats.

CT, are you familiar with Bishop Sheen’s writings and broadcasts? Have you read or watched any? 🙂

I remember as well, nonetheless Catholicism and I will never be on the same page again, so to speak.

If Catholicism is for you, great.

The truth set me free years ago in the church I have been a member of.

Kind regards.

So tell us about your conversation into Mormonism? If I recall correctly, you used to be Catholic?

How old were you when you became LDS? Was it thru other members? missionaries? research and study on your own?

It was as a result of a numbers things and people, most importantly my own desire to know the truth. So yes, members, Scouting, friends I knew who were members, and years seeing and hearing on tv and radio the Homefront PSAs that the church aired. Of course, the missionaries of found me seeking to the know the truth and I of course was willing to keep the committments leading to my baptism years ago. I was teenager.

Years prior, yes, I was a Catholic.

Thanks for sharing your story. 🙂 It helps in understanding the context of where a person is coming from and why they believe what they believe.

By your posts, it’s clear that Mormonism works for you.

Recognizing the purpose of the forums here, I appreciate that comment.

I hope everyone comes closer to God however they choose to do, recognizing that varies for all of us here.

Kind regards.

Generally speaking this is why I became a Latter Day Saints and fully recognize a lot folks here on the forums here hate my church.

For me, the true church was found almost 30 years ago.

No cradle or convert Catholic will convince me to return to Catholic, since they claim that the Roman Catholic Church is the true church.

Kind regards.
Is there such a thing as a “true church”? Many Protestants say there is not, in the sense that Catholics, Mormons, and Jehovah’s Witnesses would think of it. Each of these three groups think their organization is somehow guided by God. And the Watchtower Society claims that since it is hated it must be the true church.

So, what is a true church?

I believe that Jesus Christ created his one true church, with characteristics specific to it only, now I understand that Protestants may have another view ---- that is the truth relative to the church of Jesus Christ.

Kind regards.

I believe Jesus Christ founded the one true church. It was 2000 years ago and it has been the true church since that time. That is the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. All other churches since that time have been created by mere man, not the divine.

I came to same view years ago, leaving Catholicism, mainly because its lacked characteristics of the true church, with all due respect the loyal and/or cradle Catholics here on the forums.

I submit further folks here who are loyal to Catholicism or preparing to become members in the future can join whatever brings them to Jesus Christ and his gospel.

Nothing here on the forums here, books, etc talks I have heard over years will convince to repent and return to Catholicism. My happiness is decades old.

Kind regards.

Then why are you bothering to create posts? Is this an attempt to proselytize?

And really LDS teaching is different than what you claim in regards to tolerance toward Catholics or other Christians. The LDS teach only those who believe in the LDS will go to heaven.

I’d like to know what characteristics you found lacking in the Catholic Church.

No — within the rules of the forums, I am not here to speak for my church – I am not a offical spokeperson – just my own which I have a right to do under the US Constitution.

Again, exercising my opportunity to be a part of the forums.

Regarding your statement regarding who goes to heaven, I know of no LDS member or General Auhority who is God. Your view is common among some that I know who choose not to have any religion or believe in God — the notion of being “the judge”, if you will.

You can believe as you as do I, and of course the nonbeliever should have their liberty.

Kind regards.

Just caught this last bit.

One of the fundamental rules of marginal analysis is that if the quality being observed between two or more systems is present in both those systems, then it cannot be rationally used as a basis of distinction between them.

There are happy Catholics, happy Mormons, happy Buddhists, happy Muslims and even happy Satanists and atheists - so whether or not a religion makes you feel happy is an insufficient basis for asserting it to be “true”; since folks from all other religions also frequently claim to be happy.

I beg to differ. I was seeking happiness years ago ---- I believe if such is wanted by anyone nothing or no one prevents them from having in their life.

Kind regards.

Then by your own words - if a Muslim is happy in Islam (as we have countless examples claiming), then Islam is true? At least, certainly no less true than your Mormonism as it is affirmed on an identical basis- happiness.

Thus my point. You can’t distinguish the “True Church” on the basis of how it makes you feel.

As a convert my “happiness” is in the satisfaction of knowing God deems me worthy of revealing the truth of His Church to me…even after living a sinful life. I’m pretty certain people were going about their happy, merry, sinful ways when the flood came, when the rain of fire came and when the destruction of the Temple came.

Jesus speaks of the narrow and hard way to Him. The picking up of our crosses etc…than “happiness”. Ideally, we learn to love and carry our crosses for true happiness and love of God.
