Is self harm, that is cutting to be specific a sin? I’ve heard that it is because we r harming our body which is god’s temple. Should it be confessed??

I don’t know if you’re referring to yourself, or to others.

The correct response to such behavior is to get help. This is not a healthy behavior, and it bespeaks serious issues. The self-harmer needs to talk to his/her priest and find a therapist.

If the priest says it needs to be confessed, then do so.

Oh, and as is customary and prudent in these threads, I hereby call on the Batpriest for clerical aid.

You bet, and good luck to you. Have you had your Confirmation yet?

Yes I got confirmed on the 3rd of feb …it was amazing and I’ve got more involved in church activities . I read for the evening youth mass on Sundays and sing in the choir during the week

Congrats.

So yes, definitely talk to your priest about it. I’d say to err on the side of caution by going ahead an confessing it; if you don’t need to, your confessor will say so. Part of his job in the confessional is to help you to understand what is and isn’t sin.

Thanks… honestly I’m not sure if I wanna confess it …I’m scared of the priests reaction…so idk

This approach is one that you’re going to need to find a way to overcome. Because the priest is there to help you. His reaction, if he’s a halfway decent priest, will be to look for a way to help you.

Don’t be afraid to confess this. Based on what I’ve read in the topic, I believe self harm to be a serious sin. Firstly, you’re definitely not the first catholic to go through this, so your priest has probably experienced this before. And if you are afraid of the priest’s reaction, then confession from behind the screen. That might make you more comfortable.

My prayers are with you. I also would suggest that you speak with a Priest about it, its tough and personal and can be embarrassing but its worth it. I have confessed self-harm before and its embarrassing but I think this embarrassment is another motivation for us to strive to stay away from that stuff. Know that you are just how God wants you, you are loved, you are wonderful, and you are enough 🙂

I will now say the following prayers for you:

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt cæli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Lord make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred let me sow love

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

And where there is sadness, joy

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

O divine master grant that I may

not so much seek to be consoled as to console

to be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love

For it is in giving that we receive

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Gloria Parti, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Here is a wonderful song for you to reflect on,

God Bless you,

Matt

Thanks for the suggestion…but I usually prefer face to face cause I feel when I confess behind the screen I feel like I’m talking to a wall…I’ll just pluck my courage and try my best to bring it up during confession later this month

Thanks a lot for ur prayer Matt…really means a lot …it’s good to see that I’m not the only one who has cut and is about to confess it (although u already confessed it ) I’ll try and confess it next time

And don’t ignore the bit about trying to get professional help. People don’t just start cutting themselves in a vacuum. You need to figure out what’s going on and find a way to address it.

I’m thinking I’ll talk to my priest first…I don’t want to get professional help cause I don’t want my parents knowing about my cutting…I don’t cut often though…I just started recently …I’m sure I’ll stop soon…I just wanted to check if it should be confessed
