I wonder if he is diabetic? Hope he recovers soon.
That was exactly what I thought. It’s amazing how quickly the media tried to stir the pot with that whole issue of how his leaving could affect the status of Congress.

The poor guy wasn’t even COLD yet!

Sources: S.D. senator undergoing surgery at Washington hospital

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota was undergoing brain surgery Wednesday night at George Washington University Hospital after being hospitalized earlier in the day due to stroke-like symptoms, two Democratic sources familiar with his condition told CNN.
Johnson, 59, was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after he appeared to suffer stroke-like symptoms, although a spokeswoman for the senator said subsequent evaluation showed he did not suffer a stroke or a heart attack. Staffers told CNN Johnson was conscious when he was transported to the hospital.
…

Fisher said the senator was able to walk back to his office in the Hart Senate Office Building, then began having problems with his right arm. He thought he was all right, she said, and went to his desk, but came out a few minutes later and “it was apparent he needed help.” (Posted 11:13 p.m.)

Its being reported that Sen Johnson is in critical condition after surgery. I’ll pray for him.

I will too, aimee. What got me was that the media seemed to be just as worried about the balance of power in the senate, as they were about his condition. To be expected, I guess.

That got to me, too. It seemed so cold. I don’t know how long he can be on Sick Leave before losing his job.

Indefinite, I believe, unless he sadly dies. There’s no procedure for throwing a sick person out that I’m aware of.

A horrific sight in the late 1970s and again in the mid 1990s in the UK was desperately sick MPs transported to the Palace of Westminster in order to be counted for a close vote, usually while still lying - often close to dying - in the back of an ambulance in the car park. I hope the USA has a far more humane way of doing things than that.

He can stay in as long as he alive. President Wilsons wife basically acted as president the last year to 18 months of his final term.

My recollection is that one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was literally on his deathbed and made the effort to travel to Philadelphia so he could sign.

He shouldn’t have to suffer that kind of pressure. Even if he stays in the hospital and misses the vote, the Dems have a 50-49 advantage. That ought to help the poor guy rest and recover easier.

Pray for him to recover AND commit to the cause of life as a result of being reminded of the sanctity and frailty of life.

Yes. The British House of Commons is a bit different, as we have a number of smaller parties who can be reasonably unpredictable; very close votes can often be possible. Thank goodness anyway; it was a disgraceful sight to behold.

Cheney would give the Republicans 51.

Those MPs had a remarkable devotion to duty.
The good thing is the George Washington Hospital is one of the best in the city, they were the ones who pulled Reagan thru,

That’s only if Cheney has to step in as a tie-breaker. At 50-49, the Democrats would still be in control. Manualman was pointing out that Johnson can basically pass on the votes.

Please don’t take my comment as being light or lacking respect. I hope he comes through this, but does anyone else find it interesting that a Senator from South Dakota (where the abortion ban failed) who happens to be a Democrat has failing health at this time? I pray that he will come out of this fight of his life and continue by fighting for the lives his party sees as okay as killing. After first reading about him, it just seemed like God possibly has a bigger hand in this country than I first thought. Then again, I may be looking to much into this.

No, I think like that at all. My mom was truly one of the best folks I’ve ever known and she was eaten up by an insidious cancer. She was a Good Catholic, a terrific lady.
I don’t think God works like that. It’s just a terrible tragedy and I don’t think it has a thing to do with the abortion ban.
