They should give him immunity. There is little danger. Trump already published the entire conversation in a tweet.
He will testify if they will hear him. It is in his interest now

We know what it will say. DRUG DEAL.
It is only a matter of time this is confirmed.
The Dems will try to get 70% up to 75%. It will look rightfully like a cover up and there will be no vindication.
Sometime before election day Bolton will lead a revival. Then we vote.

There is no reason to redact the oppatative conversation.
Trump on Twitter divulged fully, that very conversation. It is as public as the Star Spangled Banner. No privilege. No top secret.
This spasm by Trump is because there is something much worse

What would you ask, what do you think about the questions being asked?
I would ask:

“Can we just vote now on guilt or acquittal?”

There has not been a single question offered from the Dems or the Repubs that didn’t have an answer, so the asking of the questions has been a total waste of time.

And, if the answer to my question was a “Yes”, the results would yield no surprise. Trump will be acquitted.

However, Trump is not the one on trial. The Senate is on trial.

Trump’s base is unmoved. The people who elected him, however, were those ready for change. Given the fact that his popular vote, based on polling data, is unchanged (40-45%), the “cross-overs” or non-party committed voters are probably best represented in the 70% plus who want witnesses in the Senate trial, or the 50% or so percent who think Trump should be found guilty and removed from office.

So…bottom line, Trump is damaged goods. His re-election, even given the advantage of the Electoral College, is doubtful.

More troubling to me, a Republican when the party included the likes of RWR, GHWB, John McCain, et al; and not the Republican party that included, but has become owned by, Donald Trump, is the fact that many a Republican Senator have pledged allegiance to Trump over decency, civility, and the Constitution.

As a result, while they may avoid the ire of Trumpian tweets, those Senators denying the presentation of witnesses and release of documents will become, and arguably rightfully so, the target of voters, who may give them the experience of “reverse tail coat riding” and be swept away with Trump…fulfilling the desire to truly “drain the swamp”.

We can talk about it in November, but doing so now is just flapping our jaws.

Well, they should have found it before they wrote and sent their articles of impeachment.

They’ve been hunting for “something much worse” for over 4 years.

I have to say it’s quite interesting what’s going to happen with Rand Paul’s questions being rejected by Justice Roberts. He asked a question with Eric Ciaramella’s name in it and it was rejected by Roberts. If the whistle blower is not known, and hasn’t been identified as Schiff states then why can’t Rand Paul ask a question about actions of Obama partisans within the NSC and House staff and how they are reported to have conspired before impeachment proceedings had even begun. Can Rand Paul’s questions just be rejected like this, even though any potential conspiracy to bring impeachment proceedings against the President is serious, relevant and should be addressed and also since the whistle blower hasn’t been identified and is not known…

I think you don’t need to catch cookie eating on video. Common sense
I’ve seen you use “Common sense” as a basis to accuse on another thread. This is ridiculous. One does not convict someone on the basis of “Common sense.”

Easy there, Che; you are fantasizing about things that have rarely occurred in the course of US history. The more likely scenario is Trump is acquitted, folks stop paying what little attention they already pay, and the election comes down to normal election issues.

I disagree with your characterization of one-side, given that side sees Trump’s detractors the same way, but at least you agree even as someone who doesn’t support Trump that this is a waste of time and a fait accompli. It will be decided in November, as well it should be. It isn’t Congress’s job to protect us from ourselves, as Schiff seems to intimate.

I sure do doubt that. It may be that the Dems will be able to re-convert the Dems who voted for Trump in the key precincts that won him the election. But in those places where Trump was strongly supported, he’s probably supported even more strongly now.

As to the Romneys and such, I am sure I’m not the only one who can’t vote for him but will gladly donate to his opponent’s campaign if he has a primary challenger. He might not care about that, but I think there will be plenty of people who’ll do it.

It is. It is a metaphor also. And it clearly is intended to describe something comparable to a drug deal in character

Every jury is instructed to use common sense and experience to determine witness testimony. The jury evaluates the testimony of witnesses. And the public evaluating in an impeachment does the same. The law is given by the court. That they must follow. In this case the Senators do both functions.

Considering how few people are actually watching the hearings I’m skeptical about how much can be inferred from polling data.
I realize Dems (and perhaps some RINOs) think failure to call Bolton will send Trump into the outer darkness. But imagine for a moment if Bolton is not called and Bolton’s book is a big zero other than being just one more general anti-Trump rant, with no “smoking gun”.

If that happens, then the Dems will look even more fraudulent than they do now. They might have made a mistake in touting Bolton the way they have.
