Idk I struggle with seeing what’s wrong with cuddling on the couch with another guy.
I definitely understand where you are coming from. There are times where I want nothing more than to be held by my best guy friend. Part of me feels like it would help with the loneliness I sometimes feel.

However, although I have this desire (which could be a desire that comes from an inner need that wasn’t met and is not malicious in any way), I have to ask if I am mature enough to handle cuddling and being held. The truth is, this constant longing (which is not malicious and not our fault) needs to be accompanied with a rational mind. Many times I thought that one hug or that one moment where I would be cuddling with a guy could be that silver bullet that solves my same sex needs.

But that would not be the case. In fact, if I am not careful I could end up falling into sin because the temptation could be too much.

Now, does this mean that two guys cuddling and hugging each other is active sin? By no means. It could be that cuddling and hugging could fit naturally in a close friendship (and these friendships do exist) but I would advise that we shouldn’t fixate on finding friendships specifically to meet those two needs.

(Final Note) It would be prudent to question whether one is mature enough to cuddle without it being active temptation as we should strive for relationships that bring us closer to God that would not be tainted with anything that could pull us away from him.

This is how I like to see men cuddle:

I’ve been thinking about this lately.
People say, “Come to the Catholic faith. All are welcome. We have compassion for all. (But don’t forget that gay activity is the sin that cries out to Heaven for vengeance). Yes, all are welcome! (But don’t forget that you gays are disordered)”

Told my friend today I’ve had desires to cuddle with him

I will not discriminate against people, I will not reject them. I will not tell them their desires are “disordered” and the result of sinfulness.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable for two straight guys to cuddle, provided that they’re both gay. Because straight guys do. Not. Cuddle.

And men in France kiss each other on the cheek and in some Middle Eastern countries I’ve been to, men often go walking down the street arm in arm with their best friends.

Try to be clearer? I meant exactly what I said, Whatever respect you might have for someone with cancer (not blaming or shaming), you should have the same respect for a person with SSA. What, do you disagree?
Doubling down? OK.

If you wanted to compare SSA with any other feature of life that is not actively chosen, you could have nominated being tall or having red hair or blue eyes. But you chose a disease.

I think that says more about you then you seem to appreciate.

Yes. Healthy touch between men is lacking in US culture. I remember when men hugging became a thing, how that got the side-eye, and when done on television shows or movies it was usually done humorously. But let me hunt down one of my favorite hugs…

I love this. The video is better because you can see how long they hugged and no “are we doing this manly enough” weirdness. It’s so healthy.

It’s not that great around women either. I remember as a young adult hanging out with a woman from Germany and she would link her arm in mine if we were walking…and that was not something I was used to. My family was not demonstrative and I don’t think I even saw girls doing this growing up.

This was a men’s cuddle group but they have women’s and co-ed cuddle groups, too.

Sad. Really sad that you think healthy affection between men is homosexual is any way. If you don’t like to be touched, I get that; I don’t like to be touched.

But Is it okay for a father to hug his son? When should that stop? Isn’t it a pet theory that boys who don’t have close relationships with their fathers then later sexualize relationships with other men. Seems to me this is the antedote, then.

🤨😑

Let me say this: it’s o.k. for guys to hug upon the death of a loved one (including a comrade-in-arms), and winning or losing a championship game. Fathers and sons are permitted under slightly more expanded circumstances, such as a graduation, etc.

If that is the limit, why? Is that really the only time it’s beneficial?

ETA: When does the need for touch that babies need to thrive end? It would change, yes, but it’s not a need that can really be meet on ones own. I can massage my own scalp and it feels okay but during a shampoo at a salon or during a massage…😍

I’ve read about different ways men try to bond and so many are violent or exploitive. I’m thinking about hazing in fraternities or joining the military or law enforcement which is supposed to cement some kind of bond. But FYI a hug lasting 40 seconds also creates a bond. Sounds like healthier approach than humiliating someone.

For those who didn’t read the first article healthy boundaries are supported and the touch is non-sexual. Both are crucial because touch for participants may have been coersive, violent, or sexualized.

There is and I apologize if I want clear that there is a difference.

Consent should determine it too.

Here you are sexualizing something unnecessarily. Parents cuddle babies, people cuddle pets, cousins cuddle, close friends cuddle. Sexualizing it robs people of healthy, platonic affection, plain and simple.

Ah, you covered consent well, here.

I’m in no way telling people what to do. I’m strongly suggesting that they reconsider how the view affection and physical intimacy (and don’t make “intimacy” sexual either; and hate when it’s used euphemistically like that.) If some sexualizes affection, even cuddling defined as non-sexual, there is a problem. This a social conditioning that is undermining our wellbeing individually and collectively.

Men hugging on such occasions is totally normal. Family members hugging is totally normal. These behaviours among American men have always been acceptable. “Men’s cuddle groups” seem to be a relatively recent ‘development.’

In a culture that has turned its collective back on God, all manner of things are surely yet to come before Christ returns in glory to judge the living and the dead. It’s all been foretold.

Yes. The inclination is objectively disordered. Conditions that are disordered are unhealthy.
Any Catholic that disputes this Catechism statement dissents against Church teaching.
What non-Catholics think about this Catholic Church teaching is irrelevant.

God bless Father Romano Christen! In a time when German Catholicism is faltering, I applaud courageous clerics like Fr. Christen and Cardinal Muller!

It’s pushback against those who want to advance the homosexual agenda in the Catholic Church. No agenda pushing? No pushback.
As far as “disordered,” that’s Church teaching. Nothing wrong with defending it.

Certainly, feel free to defend.
As for me, I won’t. Defend the teaching on the grounds of the actions being “disordered,” that is. It’s no more or less disordered than heterosexual dalliances. The Church might disagree with my position. Maybe if someone could give me a simple, basic, Theological Reason for Dummies version as to why homosexual activities are worse, then I’d change my mind.
