The Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph has agreed to an undisclosed settlement with a woman who was dismissed from her position as her parish’s coordinator of social ministry …

The headline is somewhat (unintentionally?) misleading: the settlement isn’t because she was “fired after [her] same-sex marriage” became public knowledge. The courts didn’t blink on the firing. Instead, there were apparently claims about unpaid overtime owed to her, and that’s where the settlement happened. 🤷

Thanks for the clarification. That does change the situation entirely. If she was due OT, she deserved to be paid for hours worked. I’m glad the courts otherwise left the SSM issue alone.

from the article:

The settlement was related to peripheral claims (such as overtime pay) that did not touch upon Catholic teaching on marriage.

I guess “Settlement Between Missouri Diocese and Ex-employee over Unpaid Overtime” doesn’t garner as many hits.
