Read my text above yours. Their so called prophet ellen G. White said said she saw a vision in heaven where supposedly the greatest commandment is Saturday, but Jesus in earth said the greatest commandment is to love God.
Thank you, very helpful!! Arguing about the Sabbath with the SDA’s is very touchy to them, just like when someone argues the Real Presence of the Eucharist with us. Can get heated. 😦

Hi Catholic Doktora: Great post #264. This might be of some help to you: The Law was given to lead Israel to Christ. The ceremonial observance replaces that of the Sabbath. In Christ’s Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jews Sabbath and announces man’s eternal rest in God. For worship under the Law prepared for the mystery of Christ, and what was done there prefigured some aspects of Christ. First of all Catholic’s are not celebrating the Sabbath on Sunday. We celebrate the Lord’s Day which the Sabbath points toward. It seems that SDA have a difficult time understanding this truth and look to Ellen G. White the self proclaimed prophet for the truth instead of Jesus and the Catholic Church.

Yes it is very touchy for them but that is where you can get to them and catch them in lies. My girlfriend is SDA and I remember the first 3 year she went hard after me b/c of my faith. Last year we started reading the Bible and I began to study and I found a ton of information. But I will tell you 2 things.
  1. Get info about EGW and how her writings go against the Bible.
  2. I have been doing Bible Study and I have over 121 different topics (from the Eucharist, Baptism, the Sacraments, the Pope, Purgatory, Mary, the dead, Saturday vs. Sunday), bout shy we believe what we believe with Catholic verses. If you like send me a private message and I can email you the stuff that I have.

I was amazed as I saw the fourth commandment in the very center of the ten precepts
The ten commands were written on the front and on the back on the tablets. (Exodus 31:18).

The fourth commandment would therefore not be in the middle.

This is not something that I’m saying from myself, what I had posted was a quote from Ellen G. White that she wrote down. Supposedly she saw a vision of Heaven, and an angel told her that the most important commandment was the Sabbath. Which we know its not true b/c Jesus said the most important commandment is to love God with all your might,.

I know. It is not you who I am calling into question.🙂

That’s what I was telling Dakota to go after EGW and her teachings b/c once you do nad show them that theirs a lot of flaws in her writings, if the person truly loves God, their going to say, Oh My.

I agree with you on this, I belonged to a (similar) sect that had its own founder, who was favoured in high regard and always referred to as the finder of truth that had been lost for 1700 years. I could not fault the (false) doctrines we maintained, I could only do that once I questioned the founders writings. (The man said the Holy Spirit is nothing more than electricity).

The sad part about it, its that they stray really good people away from the truth. A lot of times these people get their heads so stuck in the teachings of these so called "prophets’ That in reality they pull people away from God.

I’m so glad you were able to see the truth.

Exodus 32:15
"Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back."

Wow!
I learned something I didn’t know! Thanks all!!!
This gives a WHOLE new meaning to the “visions” of E.G.White.

I will DEFINITELY be using this one!!!

If you don’t mind me asking you, how will you use this verse in particular?

Most Adventists know about this vision. Ellen White sees the tablets taken out of the ark (??? dont’ quote me here…). She sees them as two tablets side by side like this:

ellenwhite.info/books/ellen-g-white-book-early-writings-ew-61.htm

The Bible obviously states that they were made differently than how she saw them.

This may be seen as a “technicality” but it definitely DOES NOT equate to what the Bible LITERALLY SAYS.

ALL Adventists have seen this image because they are shown it in many books, magazines and sometimes they have the image in the classrooms in the churches.

And a little more…

Modern prophetess Ellen G. White in her vision said “ I saw the Ten Commandments written on them with the finger of God. *On one table were Four and on the other six. The four on the first table shone brighter than the other six. But the fourth, the Sabbath commandment, shone above them all; for the Sabbath was set apart to be kept in honor of God’s holy name. The holy Sabbath looked glorious a halo of glory was all around it. **I saw that the Sabbath commandment was not nailed to the cross.” (Early Writings of Ellen G. White, page 33, Official Adventist publication)

Yes that’s what I had posted earlier. My girlfriend is SDA, and when I brought up to her, I told her Jesus said the biggest commandment is Love your God with all your heart, all your soul. Then he says the second most important commandment is to love thy neighbor as you do yourself. I told her, at no moment did Jesus say anything about the Sabbath.
Even when he tells the young rich man, he names the commandments and never says anything about keeping the Sabbath.

This is the one I was specifically looking for…

“I beheld the tables of stone on which the Ten Commandments were written. I was amazed as I saw the fourth commandment in the very center of the ten precepts with a soft halo of light encircling it. Said the angel, 'It is the only one of the ten which defines the living God who created the heavens and the earth and all things that are there*in.”’ (Life Sketches of Ellen G. White, Pages 95-96, Official Adventist publication)

This is what the “vision” picture in the churches shows. The verse in Exodus explains that (at least in my understanding) they are on BOTH SIDES (front and back) of the stones. This makes for a little “problem” with this vision.
If this was a vision from GOD, then why would He have given her an image different from what the REAL 10 commandments look like?

Theirs so many flaws and holes in her “visions”, my gf has started to see that. Unfortunately, no disrespect I see that you were a former SDA, but they are trained very well to follow EGW writings on the same level or above the Bible. Which unfortunately its wrong b/c she is not a prophet.

Yes, that is true.

Also, unfortunately, these “doctrines” are started at a very young age ( cradle roll is for babies birth and up…) and you are taught songs like “Sabbath is a Happy Day” and “I’m glad I came to Sabbath school”. My daughter still remembers these and used to call Sabbath School “Happy Day”.

If you teach them while they are very small they grow into it and never ask why? They never wonder where it came from, they just believe.😊🤷

I visited an SDA Church after being invited to do so by a friend & remember literally everyone walking up to me and saying “Happy Sabbath” in a fast manner, like: HappySabbath.

I could tell it was more of an affirmation they kept repeating and NOT like someone would say “Happy Birthday” - this process was so incorporated that the person who held the Bible class before the main Church started even said it and everyone repeated it back to him - then he offered a prayer thanking God for “the Sabbath”. This same thing happened when the Bible class was over and everyone went to the main church area - the pastor said “happy Sabbath” then the crowd repeated it back to him then he also prayed to God thanking God for the Sabbath.

It was similar to when the Priest says: “peace be with you” and then we say back: “and also with you”. Only in the SDA case I observed the happy Sabbath phrase is repeated so often it appears to be a sort of programming.

I would probably have to agree with you on that. It is VERY programmed into ALL SDA’s… I even knew one that would answer the phone “Happy Sabbath” on Saturday only.

That said, my husband (Catholic) was always REALLY bothered by this. He would go on and on about “why do they need to tell me Happy Sabbath sooooo many times!!!”… then he would go on about why instead they didn’t say something like “Welcome to the house of the Lord.” He would tell me that it almost seemed like they “worshipped” the Sabbath. Maybe?? Maybe not???
Whenever an SDA tries to convert someone they always emphasize “the IMPORTANCE of the Sabbath.” So in a way, maybe… they do kind of worship the day. Although when you are SDA it doesn’t feel that way at all…🤷

I remember my gf texting me that on Saturday morning. I kinda took it lightly, never mentioned anything about it.
