Yes, Marsha, but he still knows the ins and outs of the SDA Church. I do not agree with him in many things, but I do respect him for his honesty and I do pray for him that he will
return to the One True Church as founded by Jesus.

Yes, the SDA just doesn’t seem to get any respect - from Catholics or from Protestants. And for good cause. You would think that being a cult would tell them something. While this is what E.G.White wanted, this is not the way to following Christ - only the way to following White.

I think you will find this list to be a source of blessing and encouragement in your Faith.

They are not a cult Tom, although they are very close to being one. They still accept and
believe in the basic Christian doctrines. When they start changing or rejecting these doctrines, then they can be called a cult.

I don’t know about Constantine doing that. The primitive church usually worshipped on a Sunday in commemoration of Christ’s rising from the dead. That is in the writings from the early Church Fathers, to my understanding. Anyway, since “Sabbath” means rest, any day of the week can be the Sabbath. When God created, the days of the week were not named. They were only the first day, second day, etc. It is we who named the days ( and after pagan gods at that ! ).

There is solid evidence in the NT that Christians of that time were worshiping on Sunday. Constantine just made it legal. In my opinion the SDA are nothing more than a Christian bashing cult.

Here is an excerpt from an article I pulled off their website just now called “Baptized Paganism” It’s an article that starts out by comparing infant baptism to child sacrifice in ancient Babylon, and goes on to compare Sunday worship to worshiping a pagan God. They have completely re-written history to suit their own purpose without proffering any evidence to back their outlandish claims.

“When Satan failed to destroy the church by violence, he resorted to a new strategy – he would join the church himself, and corrupt it from within. This prove to be a far more successful plan. By the fourth century A.D. the Roman Empire had invested the growing church with its own wealth and a large degree of political power, thinking to extend its own domain. Unfortunately for the world, this blend of religious and temporal power was an intoxicating mix that forever changed those who tasted it. No longer the meek and harmless body of Christ, the church devoured the hand that fed her, and in 538 A.D. Emperor Justinian decreed that the Roman Church now ruled the world. And immediately following in the same article is this little tidbit of “information”

This characteristic itself was typical of all the pagan nations, which by conquest perpetually added to their list of deities. Says Durant in The Story of Civilization: "There were gods who presided over every moment of a man’s life, gods of the house and garden, of food and drink, of health and sickness.” The Roman Church gathered these gods into her bosom and gave them saints’ names. Prayers for the dead, instead of ascending to Cybele were now offered up to the Virgin Mary. The use of idols and amulets was preserved, as were offerings of appeasement (penance and indulgences). The pagan kings were believed to be incarnations of the sun-god, and the Roman Church had its counterpart in the pope as the vicar of Christ.

If I show little charity toward these people it is because of lies like these that are part of every article of theirs that I have read.

Shades of Jehovahs Witnesses, the SDA sounds just like them. I bet the SDA copied
everything like that from the JWs ( The Watchtower and Bible Tract Society ). Anyway the JWs and SDAs need something like that to try to legitimize their existence and reason for being. I’m still amazed at all the poor souls that are duped into following
the organizers of “religions” such as these. Reminds me a lot of the Branch Davidians.

Anyway the more these organizations attack the RCC ( under the aegis of the prince of lies ) the stronger the CC becomes. Just always keep in mind that THIS IS the Church founded by Jesus Christ. It is the deposit of all truths, and nothing can change that.
Jesus said that " the gates of hell shall not prevail…" and that He will be with us always.
That the RCC has come down through the ages, unchanged, is proof of that. No matter
how hard Satan and his horde try to destroy the Church, he never will succede. Just
keep praying for all those outside that they may come to an understanding and come home. God Bless.

I think Len hit the nail on the head, too when he said that we are to remember that this is the Church founded by Christ and the Gates of Hell will not prevail. From time to time my mind wanders and I lose the Presence of Christ - and then I see the snarling forces of the enemy… and my knees begin to shake! :eek: Remembering that the outcome of the War against the forces of Good and evil is already known… and our job is remember this as we fight our individual battles.

Thanks for the encouragement. The site was recommended by an SDA acquaintance, and I still have a hard time believing that people who call themselves Christians can spew such hatred and lies about their fellow Christians. I know the Church accepts the SDA as Christians so I will try to show the same Christian charity toward them.

It’s the first article entitled “Baptized Paganism”.
I copied the link. There is a large list of other articles too. Take your pick, the same filth is in all of them.

I wouldn’t call it filth. It’s just that they don’t truly know and understand Jesus and His teachings. They’re trying to legitimize their existence as a denomination and they think that the only way is to attack Catholicism ( I wonder what they think of the Orthodox ).
It us up to we Catholics to diseminate Jesus’ truth and try to show them the error of their ways with true Chritian charity. Don’t forget, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Let’s not imitate the SDA. God Bless.

greggy; it is your own hatred of non-Catholic Christians that leads you to talk like this. What you call “filth” is simply truth which you wish to ignore; you can’t do very well at refuting it; so you are choosing to call it “hatred.” Calling it such things; and actually proving such charges are two very different things.

For a while; I was tempted to believe people like you who make such baseless charges, but as I studied into the matter with an open mind; I could easily see how Ellen White or any other Adventists writings did also take special care to always level the same kinds of charges against Adventists who would not accept and follow Bible truths. Catholics have never been especially singled out as targets of “hatred,” any more than Adventists when it comes to naming sin.

Doctrines that don’t come from Jesus can only come from one other source, and it is nowhere close to “hatred” when one church tries to correct what they see as falsehoods being taught by another Church. You’ll have to do a lot better than some of your snide little comments here to convince me of anything.

How is “showing them the errors of their ways” any different than the “hatred” label that you love to proscribe others with who don’t happen to agree with you? There is a mile-wide difference between “hatred” and trying to refute what one sees as falsehoods. If you truly want to “catch us with honey,” then that’s what you should in practice start to do. 👍
