There are some that I listen to closer on this forum than others.
Thank you protestant101. You have just proved my point! I don’t know why anyone bothers with you. You are very devious. We Catholics treat all alike, but you pick and chose. May the Lord have mercy on you.

Hey greggy. I see what you mean. You make a typo and it’s pounced on instead of answering the question or comment. What a way to evade answering a question. Nit pick, play with semantics, or typos, when you know you are wrong or can’t answer. A better way than admitting you were wrong and having to say you’re sorry. I’ve lost all faith in whatever protestant101 has to say. I will never be able to believe him. I just hope all SDAs are not the same. If they are, then there is no use in trying to dialogue with them. Are you listening protestant101?

It can be very frustrating I know, but the more they wiggle and squirm when we hold their feet to the fire the more we know that the truth is hitting home. He can’t answer the questions so he attacks the questioner. What typo? DSA stands for: Delinquent Seventh-day Adventists;)

Sorry for the error, greggy. I thought you made a typo. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
As for holding their feet to the fire, yes, they wiggle and squirm and as they squirm the more I know that they don’t know what the truth is. They all spout scripture by rote without really knowing what they are saying. Keep it up. God Bless.

Yes it was a typo, but don’t tell Protestant101:thumbsup:
One of the reformed/recovered SDA’s on this thread said something to the effect that they (the SDA) are taught a certain number of scriptures that correspond to specific doctrines. Other than that is seems their knowledge is rather limited

Hi all, having become a new Christian about 3-4 years ago it’s a little sad to see the petty us verses you arguments going on in this topic. I’ve aligned myself to the sda church purely based on some basic biblical truths that I (repeat I) believe are true. Eg. The Sabbath day, grace, state of the dead just to name a few. What I haven’t been able to find in the bible is that you should become a certain type of religion (sda, catholic, muslim, baptist). What is clearly stated in act 3:9 with Peter speaking to the crowd saying " repent and be converted". The word “converted” over time has changed from the word “shalem” which has several different meanings. Eg greetings, peace, surrender, and submit. So to get the real understanding of this important passage should read “turn back from your sinful ways and ‘surrender’ yourself in faith to God” not “give up your religion and adopt ours instead”.
We are all children of God and we need to remember that, which I’m sure we all do. Let’s keep the topic going and not get personal about each others churches and get back to the basic belief that all we need to do is place our hand in God’s hand and He will hold tight to us and direct us where he needs us most.

From Australia happy Sabbath and shalem to all.👍

First, a hearty congratulations on becoming a Christian! 👍 How wonderful to have another brother (sister?) in Christ!

I notice that you are brand new to this site, so maybe a bit of explanation is in order. One of the key issues in any discussion between faith traditions boils down to one of authority. Another way of stating that would be “how do you know that the church you attend has it right, and mine has it wrong?” While this question can be stated between ANY two faith traditions, even assuming that I am only discussing Christianity, nowhere does that raise more hackles than between the Catholic Church and what we Catholics often refer to as our “Separated Brothers and Sisters in Christ.” This question on authority is the root cause of most of the wrangling over the various verses and their “true” meaning.

As Catholics, we claim the authority of Apostolic Succession. This can be, for those with the patience to read and study, proven to have been the accepted position from the teachings of the Apostles themselves to the writings of their immediate successors, and down through the annals of time. Protestants (there are those who dislike that name, but if you are “in protest” to the authority of the Catholic Church, you are, by definition, a protestant.) claim that they know their interpretations to be true because they have the direct council of the Holy Spirit to assist in their discernment.

We as Catholics do indeed see our separated brothers and sisters as being Christian. There are some that are more aligned doctrinally and liturgically to the Catholic Church and some are less so, but so long as they accept that Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life”, they are still Christians. Too, there are those who do not accept Christ, but are still essentially monotheistic (Jews and Muslims come to mind). Regardless, ALL are children of God.

Sorry for getting a bit off-track, and hopefully I’m not restating the obvious, but I thought it worth defining some basics. In a general sense, I think the intent has been one of love, though having recently finished ploughing through the whole thing, it’s also obvious that emotions have become a bit tense at times. That’s bound to happen when you’re passionate about what you believe.🤷

I’ll end as I started… Welcome as a Christian, and welcome to the discussion. May the Truth in all things prevail!

Let me welcome you too to the list - and congratulate you on an excellent response.

Keep up the good work.

Hi, Javl,

Now, I think you may have gone just a bit too far on this… 😃
OK. You may be right. But I’ll wait a bit longer and see what happens. If no answer is forthcoming, then I’ll just have to accept that the SDA Church is a false and heretical Church organized by Satan to deceive and dupe the unknowing and uninformed. Very, very sad.

P101 has essentially been unmasked as a fraud. Waiting is fine … if that is how you want to spend your time … but, just do not hold your breath - you have no idea how difficult it is to give CPR via e-mail!!! 😉

But, the reality is that even though P101 has demonstrated nothing but a bankrup approach to things - his personal failures are not the way to evaluate the SDA church. Quite honesty, you can quite accurately evaluate SDA belief structure but looking at its origin (e.g., E.G. White’s misadventure in following the failed Millerite group), looking at how it handles Scripture (either misinterpret what is clearly written or ignore it, e.g., John 6’s Eucharist Discourse simply does not mean what it says it means) and finally, look at the hatred that they spread toward Catholics in an effort to try and discredit the Church founded by Christ on Peter by giving him the keys(Matt 16 does not mean what it clearly says, either!).

Best wishes and God bless,

You are quite right Tom. I have also studied the SDA and have done some research on them. I just hoped that what I had learned was wrong, but it seems I was wrong. Also, I did know the stock answers that would have been given to my questions ( easy to rebuff and/or rebuke them ), I just wanted to see what P101 would have answered, but he went poof. Now there is a replacement. It seems that each one takes a turn at being blasted. Let’s see what happens now. Many thanks for your help and concern. May god Bless you abundantly.

While we are all God’s children we are not all united in faith. This is what we are discussing on this and other threads. This thread was started to find out what the SDA beliefs are so we can better understand what they are all about. Conflict and tensions arise not when we discover what their beliefs are, but rather when we find out what their beliefs about Catholics are. We have been able to gather in the course of conversing with several members of SDA that they take a very dim view of Catholic teaching even to the point where they accuse us of pagan worship. Our Church is also referred to in SDA sanctioned propaganda (among many other things) as the “whore of Babylon”. So, before you scold us for not behaving like Christians I would suggest that being SDA you might first look at the way your own sect treats other Christians before you engage in any more sanctimonious lecturing.

One of my friends is a Seventh Day Adventist and she told me that they believe that the end of the world will be when Catholics take over the United States. I didn’t know what to respond to this. Can anyone give me advice just in case I ever have a similar experience?

God Bless

I have read that they believe that the Catholic Church will get laws passed that everyone must worship on Sunday. Those that refuse will be put to death. I do not know what method of madness they used to come to this silly prediction. It is just one of their many ludicrous inventions. I had an SDA approach me last year, and I too was unprepared for the craziness. I have since made a closer study of the history of our faith and have been able to give this person much better responses. I have also learned much by monitoring this forum. The best way I think to respond to any of their allegations is to engage them in a discussion on the Bible. They are a “Bible only” heresy and with a little knowledge of our faith it can easily be debunked.

Oh Greggy please don’t treat me like a child. Correct me if I’m wrong but i haven’t read in the Bible that it is the church that goes to heaven, I’m fairly certain its about the personal relationship that you have with our saviour that gets you there.

Sect??? Have you been doing a google search or something???

Catdan: you will be treated like a child if you act like one. In our posts with previous SDAs on this thread we have been treated with a “holier than thou” attitude and “you don’t know anything, do you/” attitude also. We have been ignored, shunted, and diverted from the subject. We have also been reviled with vitriolic unfounded comments. We hope and pray that you will not do the same as previous SDAs. We wish an honest and truthful dialogue. Pease don’t be like the others that left a bitter taste in our mouths about the SDA. Thank you and God Bless.

No you haven’t, but I wonder if you have read in the Bible where it says that Christ is one with his Church? - Not the Bible. That Christ established his Church-not the Bible? That the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth-Not the Bible?

Define personal relationship? Catholics understand that you cannot have a personal relationship with God unless you receive him in the Holy Eucharist. “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood the life is not in you.”

I use the word “sect” because I hesitate to use the word Church because of the lies of your leaders, and their hatred for God’s Church.

Hi everyone. What are some of the main beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventist Church? What do they get wrong and what do they get right? I know that they believe in worshiping only on the sabbath which they believe is Saturday. Catholics have services both on Saturday and on Sunday. Also, why did the Catholic Church change the sabbath from Saturday to Sunday? 🤷
In my opinion, they don’t get anything right, actually.

They do not believe in Hell.
They believe that the pope is the antichrist.
They believe that Christ sinned.
They do not worship on Sunday.
They are mostly vegans (nothing wrong with that, really).
They claim to be the authentic remnant church.
They were founded by Ellen G. White.
They do not believe in the assurance of salvation.
Socially, they are against unionization.

They believe that worship should be on the original Sabbath (from Friday night to Saturday night). They do not worship on Sunday, the first day of the week, as do the majority of Christians.

The worship on Sunday in the Christian tradition started quite early in the Church. Early Christians (who were Jews) worshipped on the Sabbath but also had a special Liturgy on Sunday for Christ as Messiah. Eventually, the early Christians were forbidden to attend synagogue, and even refrain from worshipping on the Sabbath in some cases. Sunday became the preferred day of the week for worship.

The Church still honors the Sabbath. Masses begin at sundown or on the eve of sundown on Saturdays, which continues on Sunday.

Hi Peary,

Here is my basic understanding. No laughing Greggy i’m very sensitive. lol 👍

They do not believe in Hell.
The Bible quiet clearly talks about hell so a bit hard not to believe in that.

They believe that the pope is the antichrist.
Fairly sure its the papal system

They believe that Christ sinned.
Ha!!! Never heard that one. Fairly sure that’s not true.

They do not worship on Sunday.
Very True

They are mostly vegans (nothing wrong with that, really).
Possible but I think you will find that most are vegetarians, but certainly not biblical. Ask any dietitian for their advice on type of eating, I still love a good Lamb roast though.

They claim to be the authentic remnant church.
They do claim this, but I believe that they will be a part of the last group of people that follow the Ten commandments.

They were founded by Ellen G. White.
True and I believe some put a little to much emphisis on what she says at times. However she does have some good commentary like many others that I have read.

They do not believe in the assurance of salvation.
Eph 2:8 kills that myth

Socially, they are against unionization.
Never read that in the Bible but possibly true, not really sure but has nothing to do with our personal relationship with God.👍

Very True about the Sabbath. The Ten Commanmnets clearly state this and best of all Jesus worshiped on this Holy day. Jesus came to fulfill the law not to do away with it. But i’m sure we all worship our God everyday, Right?

Thanks for your post. Now we have a few things to clear up, like the Pope being the Anti-Christ, following the old law, worshipping on Saturday, etc. Although we have been through these subjects with other SDAs ( and made no headway ), should we re-hash them with you and get you to understand our position? Also, one thing that sticks in my throat about the SDAs are the allegations that we have pagan practices. I have asked many times for proof of this but have never received any, The ball is now in your court.
Thanks again, and I hope to have an informative and friendly dialogue with you.

Hi, Javl,

Now, I think you may have gone just a bit too far on this… 😃

P101 has essentially been unmasked as a fraud. Waiting is fine … if that is how you want to spend your time … but, just do not hold your breath - you have no idea how difficult it is to give CPR via e-mail!!! 😉

But, the reality is that even though P101 has demonstrated nothing but a bankrup approach to things - his personal failures are not the way to evaluate the SDA church.
What kind of “fraud” did you say I was? Exactly how have I committed “fraud” on this forum? I had a choice tonight of either answering to all the ridiculous statements here about Adventists, by all the Catholic “experts” or to go on a date with my wife; my time would not allow both, so guess which I did?

Sometimes, what is called “fraud” and other similar terms of imprecation are just as innocent as a man taking his wife out instead of arguing with a bunch of anti-Adventist malcontents.

But, I am out of time for now, there’s nothing sensible here to reply to anyways, and I am sure you will use this post as yet another excuse for your whimpering and whining about all the “personal failures” of Protestant101. I am sure your “message” will be appreciated around the world by many people. :highprayer:

I was quite interested in replying to Patrick about certain aspects of Adventist beliefs; but I guess he has done the same as you accuse me of? 🤷

I have heard over three years now the same tired Catholic responses to certain things; and what I tend to do now is to avoid most of what I have already hashed through before in years gone by on this forum. People like you keep trying to tell me how the Catholic Church doesn’t teach anything bad about Adventists; yet when one looks at forums like this; and what you say to me for “refusing” to answer, that is very hard to fathom.

I really don’t mind though when you want to call me names and throw out the accusations; it is a good way for me to learn certain things too, but I would not want to try saying that I have good news of any kind for Adventists; if I was any one of most of the Catholic members of this forum. 😦

A great post from an anti-Catholic who picks and chooses whom he will answer, Also one who makes fantastic and ridiculous statements and when asked for proof conveniently ignores the request. It is such as you that gives Protestantism in general a bad name.Thank you for your statement. Now we know.
