Many of those protests are now targeting monuments. Initially, demonstrators were focused on statues of generals and other notable figures who supported the Confederacy during the civil war, but the movement has since added the Founding Fathers, former presidents, and several Catholic saints to their list of targets.

Although there does not appear to be a clear connection between the nine incidents from over the weekend, authorities are concerned that, particularly in light of statements made by activists like Shaun King identifying religion and religious figures as a tool of “white supremacy,” religious institutions may also be targeted.

This is HORRIBLE! Nothing is sacred, anymore, not even houses of worship! Just HORRIBLE!

If the leaders in these cities aren’t able or willing to put an end to this stuff, it may be time to bring in federal troops

You’d never know that from reading the misleading article. The cause of the St. Gabriel fire has not yet been determined by authorities. The Florida man is mentally ill, so this could have happened any time, any where. Latest reports don’t show any arrests yet in the vandalizing of either statue of the Blessed Virgin. Certainly, the word “idol” on one of them indicates fundamentalists rather than BLM.

These incidents are bad enough, there’s nothing to be accomplished by deliberately sensationalizing and misleading.

Whether one of the individuals was mentally ill the TIMING of the incident would suggest that all this rioting and protesting and defiling of statues played a part in his actions!

I don’t believe in coincidences.

And this is not sensationalizing, what’s sensational is that I rarely read of these things on MSM sites!

As for one of the statues having the word “idol” written, what makes you think fundamentalist and BLM are mutually exclusive terms?

Houses of worship have not been sacred to many people for a long time, but at least they were left alone. This is a serious escalation. Their real enemy is the One who is worshiped there.

Just as Herod attempted to literally kill God, abortionists are trying to kill those who were made in God’s image. These things are connected and we know who wins in the end.

Whether the Florida man was mentally ill or not, he said he wanted to target the church and if he had done this later in the morning there might have been many injured and many deaths.

Just because the word “idol” is on a statue does not 100% mean fundamentalists
are behind the vandalizing.

We will see what the investigation reveals in the St. Gabriel fire. They believe the
fire started in the choir loft and arson is a possibility.

I was not aware that it had been established that the San Gabriel Mission fire was an “attack”. All I read was it started in a corner of the choir loft. Since the church was under renovation, it could easily have been a worker’s careless mistake, or even faulty wiring.

As puer.dei said, mentally ill people are responsible for a lot of church destruction and it happens all the time, not just this month.

Is this about the statue of Jesus Christ with the lamb that was decapitated or the one of Holy Mary set on fire? Also, a person driving a car into a parish during mass…
