Those seem like wise words. Always best to remain vigilant and not fall into indifference.

Cardinal O’Malley is currently under fire for discharging four people from positions at a Catholic school in Revere, Massachusetts. The four people in question are supposedly innocent, but I can’t say that I know all the details.

I vaguley remember hearing about this but didn’t know the details either. There’s not a lot of info online but I did find this from the local paper. Very weird all around. The janitor was found to have done nothing wrong (except for using a student bathroom) but three people resigned. Unless I’m missing something, it’s a strange story.

I wish public schools had people as vigilant as Cardinal O’Malley.

I hear people use the sex abuse scandal as a lame excuse to reject the Catholic Church. The thing is, I had a third grade public school teacher who was later arrested for child porn. Using the same logic, I should have quit school in the third grade. Again, in public high school, the drama teacher I had as a freshman was arrested for abusing many, many, foster children (all boys). I didn’t drop out of high school at 14 either. Even though I had a few bad teachers, I knew that I NEEDED an education. Why in the world would someone quit the Church because of a few bad priests when they know, deep down, they need the Church and her sacraments?

The Church needs to continue to be vigilant. And continue to investigate any wrongs done in the past.
