Back in the day most used condoms, also a lot of women performed abortions on themselves. sex in even very early times was prevalent among unmarried, look how many american gis went over seas during the war & fathered children all over the place, & these children were shunned by their country, & were forced to fend for themselves cause no one wanted them. Sex has always reared its ugly head outside of marriage & most took advantage of it

Step 1: Take a trip to France
Step 2: Notice topless women openly displayed in advertising
Step 3: Appreciate how conservative America is

“Back in the day,” condoms could not be bought by unmarried people, and contraception itself was condemned by most protestant churches. Most GI’s returned without having fathered any children.

Yes, there has always been sex outside of marriage, but it is not correct to say “most” took advantage of it. That adjective applied in some times and places and not in others.

Not where I come from, the druggist would sell them to any young man even underage, the druggist was like everyones father, he would rather a young fellow be protected, then get a disease or conceive a child & from what I have seen of life, most did take advantage of it.When I was growing up, most men had wives but they also had girlfriends, actually women were treated terribly , & some still are treated terribly. One time when I was young, I was in a hosp ward I was single, the other three guys were married, there wives sat by there bedside with long sorrowful faces as they watched their husband lie there, when the wives left, them three guys suddenly would wake up & say I am glad she is gone, the worse part was That they talked about their girlfriends until the wee hrs of the morning, I also know an undertaker, & he says many times before the funeral the other woman knocks on the door & asks if she can pay her respects without disturbing the family, this is up to date. I think most men, not all cannot control themselves where sex is concerned

I think we all agree that this country is headed the same way as the Roman Empire because of the moral decay.

O P have posted the reasons why.

I agree that our society is over-sexed and it’s going to (and does) lead to moral decay, but the article makes it sound as if that moral decay resulted in this empire’s ruin. Any two events that happened around the same time are going to be correlated, but can we say that our depravity will result in North America one day being a hillside strewn with ruined marble?
Yes!!!

I think this post needs references to back itself up. From what I remember of history, these statements are baseless.

I do agree that abuses of sex and the body has been around for ages. And I do agree that corruption and evil things such as violent and oppressive gangs, harmful and widespread drugs, and reckless and abandon sex exists and are in many places even dominate forms of existence. I do not agree that these many places make up the majority, nor would people generally accept these practices. Instead military like force and attacks on individual keeps bad people in a seat of power, whether it is the local gang or the regional dictator.

Now You know certain things they dont write down in history books, there is a lot of stuff in the history books that is probably half truth anyway. Look at all the wicked stuff going on now sexually, its just more open due to media etc, I definitely am not saying I approve of it

Tens of thousands of babies were fathered by American GI`s across Europe during the 2nd world war, Do a search on (War Babies)

I was on the American Chesterton Society website (www.chesterton.org) and reading the essay ‘Sex and Property’ and came across the following:
For instance, there were throughout antiquity, both in its first stage and its last, modes of idolatry and imagery of which Christian men can hardly
speak. “Let them not be so much as named among you.” [See Ephesians 5:3] Men wallowed in the mere sexuality of a mythology of sex; they organised prostitution like priesthood, for the service of their temples; they made
pornography their only poetry; they paraded emblems that turned even architecture into a sort of cold and colossal exhibitionism. Many learned
books have been written of all these phallic cults; and anybody can go to them for the details, for all I care. But what interests me is this:
In one way all this ancient sin was infinitely superior, immeasurably
superior, to the modern sin. All those who write of it at least agree on one fact; that it was the cult of Fruitfulness. It was unfortunately too often
interwoven, very closely, with the cult of the fruitfulness of the land. It was at least on the side of Nature. It was at least on the side
of Life. It has been left to the last Christians, or rather to the first
Christians fully committed to blaspheming and denying Christianity, to invent a new kind of worship of Sex, which is not even a worship of Life. It
has been left to the very latest Modernists to proclaim an erotic religion which at once exalts lust and forbids fertility. The new Paganism literally merits the reproach of Swinburne, when mourning for the old Paganism: “and rears not the bountiful token and spreads not the fatherly feast.” The new priests abolish the fatherhood and keep the feast - to themselves. They are
worse than Swinburne’s Pagans. The priests of Priapus and Cotytto [fertility deities.] go into the kingdom of heaven before them.
I would say Chesterton’s words are even more appropos now…
