That is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. 31 years this year for my husband and I.

Thers no moral problem if a couple cannot conceive due to old age or anything natural. You’re confusing the in ability to conceive with artificial birth control.

If marital sex is permissible only for procreation-what sex if any is open for those who past child bearing age? Couples in their 60’s 70’s?
sex is permissible only for procreation…
This is not really an accurate shorthand for the Church’s teaching.
The Church’s teaching is rather that all conjugal acts must be apt for the generation of offspring.

If you are still able to perform such acts then the presence of sterility does not destroy aptness of the act itself.

Nobody said the generative organs have to function at their biological/generative level.
That is precisely why NFP is moral as well. One may directly intend to avoid pregnancy (for a good reason) and still have sex provided the aptness of the sex act itself is respected.

Ok, back up here @Franq1855.

It sounds like to me what you are really asking is whether an older married couple can replace intercourse with other actions to reach climax.

Is that what you are really asking?

What I am “really asking” covers the multitude of questions concerning what is permitted, and what is not. The subject becomes quite graphic in an open dialogue with both youth, and the elderly. With the youth, the answers are quite clear. But with the elderly, the questions are veiled in angst… doubt… but always trying to reignite the fire of the past. Couples often feel "where has the love we had gone. " Women seem to be the most vocal, while often the husbands refuse to attend or participate. With the lack of clarity and sound-bytes from the papacy, many of the faithful question what happened for the apparent change of direction from the previous Holy Fathers and the present Holy Father. The 2nd Vatican Council is doctrinal, and authentic magisterial teaching, not a Spiritual opinon, the CCC is clear.
Can we the faithful now expect a rewriting or editing of doctrine, Canon Law, and Liturgy to meet the relativistic and materialistic lack of morals of the age. Is there a movement to "Open the windows appears to throw out the baby and keep the dirty bath water?
1ke I have to back up a bit and stir the pot and see what surfaces.

Wow. If “the love we had” merely means “the sex we used to have”, I think there’s a more serious problem here among elderly married couples than you’re asking… 😦

I personally am not sure where you concern is here.
Couples of any age are free (encouraged!) to have well ordered sexual relations.
The act has to be ordered to procreation and unity.
Whether or not procreation actually can or does actually happen is somewhat beside the point.
If you cannot complete a well ordered act, that is another issue.
It is not a sin to attempt and not be able to complete.

This is a never ending source of unnecessary confusion:
Being “ordered to” is not the same thing as results.
If it were, then every sex act should result in conception, and it doesn’t.
Does that make sense?

Sex is permissible at anytime for a married couple. Only actively interfering with fertility is sinful (not being naturally infertile).

But with the elderly, the questions are veiled in angst… doubt… but always trying to reignite the fire of the past.
If that is the core issue then it is likely built on sand.

If we haven’t leant by the age of 60 that “the fire of the past” needs to be handed back to God in the same way as He gifted it to us in our teen years (along with many other things including our teeth) then perhaps life has taught us little and we have much more to worry about than what sort of sad and unusual sex acts are permitted in our twilight years 😂.

But what we can learn to console us is surely that we can be warm in the knowledge that we still love and have loved and He that now requires us to let go of the passions of youth will restore such glories to us in the New Heaven and the New Earth promised to those who love Him.
