The sexualizing of young girls and boys, has nothing to do with sex before marriage. There are many secular people who are horrified by it, and have been fighting against it for hundreds of years. This is not news to them either.Well, I won’t hold my breath waiting for the big APA study proclaiming that sex before marriage is bad for you.
But sexualizing children, and or making people believe that a woman is an object purely for sexual desire has nothing to do with couples making a commitment to each other, and choosing to try their relationship out(co-habit and physical intimacy) before they make a lifelong commitment.
Quite frankly, forcing people to wait until marriage, is just as bad as forcing some-one to have intercourse at too young of an age and/or making them believe they are only worth what other’s think of them.
What amazes me, with some of the comments in this thread, is that the problem with women being seen as objects, INCLUDING a wife whose job it is to cook, clean and breed is something that feminists and secular society worked hard to avoid. IE…women are worth MORE than the role society chose for them, which includes sexual pleasure. Now all of a sudden it’s the “catholics” that realize the folly of forcing women into a role that does not reflect her self-worth?
Please tell me how a woman was to work and take care of herself 400 years ago? Please tell me how a woman was to get an annulment from a dreadful marriage 400 years ago? This viewing of women as 2nd class citizens has a long history, and christianity has been very much a part of it and there are quite a few bible passages that support this disrepect and disregard for females.
If you want to create change, you won’t get anyone other than those sitting beside you in mass to listen if you cannot see your churches own history and the damage it has done as well.
I want us to do something about this horrible youth culture but how are we supposed to work together on this, when all I see is an “I told you so attitude”… when it was actually the secular people who were instrumental in pushing for equal rights, and respect for the individual human in the first place?
