it jeopardizes the faith when society accepts things and promotes things that are wrong publically. This effects our children and the future. At one time homosexual behavior was shunned, so was straight public displays of sex, abortion was illegal and many other things. How did it become acceptable and common? Just the same way this is unfolding. It was the people who just rolled over and said “above all lets be charitable” which amounted to a whole lot of nothing. I amounted to a whole lot of literally silence or turning the cheek. And there you have it now this stuff is main line and “normal” and its because we refused to turn over tables and shout what was wrong.
Thank you …so there really are Catholic thinkers on this forum after all.

Thank you for giving a simple, straightforward and logical answer.

After reading so many lukewarm, posts, I was almost brainwashed into thinking I was being uncharitable in calling a sin sin. 🙂

I am not a biologist, but with current state of science and technology I don’t think that you can even change a European into an Asian. So the example of a lion is a bit farfetched.
I only asked because if one is willing to accept the possibility of a person to change sex, then what is the logic of forbidding species? Just saying “farfetched” is a subjective term a person could just as easily say of changing sex. Right?

Well, werewolf novels seem to be pretty popular now, which raises the question of trans-species.

Catholic World Report also has an article on the matter here. The deeper problem, I think, is that where once we accurately perceived human nature as a given, now there are many who see human nature not as a given, but as subject to human will and desires. A man is not a man, nor a woman a woman; rather one can be whatever one decides. It is remaking reality in line with one’s own desires.

Exactly! I get asked what harm such perversions do to me, and my concern is not with personal harm, but the widespread harm of moral decline across all social strata. God bless you.

Yes - THANK YOU! I too am happy to see Catholic thinkers posting on this topic.

Anyone else notice how the Church is getting to be science’s only ally anymore? Science says it’s a man. Secularism says it’s up for grabs. Science says it’s a human being. Secularists say it’s tissue blob.
I agree.

There is evidence that transgender people have been around far back in history. This is not a new phenomenon, what is relatively new to today’s trend is growing acceptance and a means to alleviate the pain that transgender people experience.

Do you or anyone else on this forum have a viable alternative to alleviate this condition? What I have seen and heard here is references to what amounts to conversion/reparative therapy. A practice that has disastrous results and there numerous examples of this. The Clarke Institute in Toronto tried various forms of this technique for years with disastrous results and has since been disbanded. Here is a bill just passed in Ontario, Canada. ca.news.yahoo.com/lgbt-conversion-therapy-ineffective-harmful-212658193.html

Can you or any one else on this forum say with certainty that this is not a biological condition? There is growing evidence that a male to female transgender brain is more like a cis female than a male.

Instead of spending so much time and effort on slamming Caitlyn, let’s hear about concrete alternatives that have produced results that are consistently repeatable.

The secular world is making an attempt to alleviate suffering, on the other hand all I see here as a remediation is therapy as a catch all, without knowing if it truly works. This is irresponsible and leads to cases like Leelah Alcorn.

Every one of these uncharitable posts pushes transgender folk closer to suicide, including the sad out come is that transgender Catholics leave the Church.

The good news is that there are many Catholics including priests that are accepting and supportive.

What are the “foul poles” which make comments charitable or uncharitable regarding the topic of transgender people?

Is talking about biological differences between transgenders who have “switched from male to female” vs. women with actual XX chomosomes uncharitable?

Is trying to make a distinction between the two uncharitable?

Is this doctor uncharitable?
cnsnews.com/news/article/michael-w-chapman/johns-hopkins-psychiatrist-transgender-mental-disorder-sex-change

I would agree that intentionally attacking, mocking or humiliating Jenner would be uncharitable, but there are a lot of people, including myself, that haven’t really had many discussions about the topic. With Jenner in the news, and being such a well know celebrity, many questions have been generated…so, what are the “foul poles”?

Suicide can be a problem among those with this type of mental disorder, or any mental disorder. For instance, quite a few Veterans commit suicide every day here in the U.S., but I don’t see the same clamoring to help those poor souls who suffer from PTSD.

But why should the only remedy be to cut off or mutilate perfectly normal body parts, in order to alleviate the symptoms of mental illness? And does it really help?

There was a recent study that I read (I can’t remember where) which said that the medical community is reconsidering surgical remedies for this mental problem, because studies have shown that for the most part, it does not increase happiness in the individuals who suffer from this disorder.

Victims of sexual reassignment surgery are more likely to commit suicide by a factor of 20. If you think it is rude people causing that increase, think again.

First Things has a short article here.

An excerpt:

“It takes some dexterity to get this right. On the one hand, sexuality isn’t simply biology. If male and female differ only by a few body parts plus or minus, then transitioning seems as innocuous as a kidney transplant or an amputation. Sexuality is much more fundamental. God didn’t make generic human stuff poured out into two kinds of bodies; he made two kinds of persons. Our maleness and femaleness is integral to the creatures we are made to be. We are created, to use John Paul II’s terms, with “spousal” bodies designed for reciprocal self-giving, some for masculine self-giving, others for feminine self-giving.”

And don’t forget the Church’s recent affirmations of AGW. The Church has a long history of following science. It’s on e of the many reasons I love the Church.

And yet “teh Churrch H8z teh Science! Lol #gallileo” is all you seem to hear.
