I have told this story before…

Holy Thursday last year, I, an altar server, served at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which was celebrated by the Cardinal Archbishop of my Archdiocese.

I was tasked with putting a cope around the Cardinal’s neck.

I was handed the cope folded up, and put it around his neck. It fell right off. I rather mindlessly had put a folded up cope around the Cardinal’s neck. A priest helped put it on properly, but I think that that memory will remain with me for a long time to come…

I faint at the sight of blood.
I don’t faint at the sight. Well, not quite.

I have learned to tell them that they either need to take my blood immediately, or I can’t donate, and, no, an appointment won’t work at all . . .

the odd thing is that I didn’t start like this. I watched the needles go in as a child.

It was giving blood to the Red Cross in college that did it, and those horrific tubes they call “needles” . . .

I was a Can Can dancer at age 40! All throughout my 30’s and well into my 40’s, I was really into fitness. I did aerobics 3 times a week and was running any where from 9 to 15 miles total on the other 3 days of the week. At 40 years of age I was in the best shape of my life. My aerobics instructor was a former professional dancer who taught classes on our Army base and owned her own dance studio off base. As a military wife herself, she had volunteered her expertise to head up the entertainment for the annual 49er’s Night on my base. It was a major fund raiser to support the soldiers MWR. She decided to put on saloon hall dance routines using volunteers from her aerobic classes. I didn’t sign up for it but someone(s) in the class volunteered me as a joke I think. At first I was going to say no thanks but since we had to audition to be picked to become dance hall “girls”, I decided to try out. I made the cut. We practiced for months on the two choreographed dance numbers one of which was the Can Can. It turned out to be a very professional looking number danced to the original 2:12 minutes Offenbach Can Can music. We wore custom made red & white costumes that our instructor had ordered for us. We paid for them ourselves so the cost wouldn’t come out of the MWR budget. I never imagined that I would be doing something like that especially at 40 but never regretted doing it.

I listen to people and smile and say
You’re asking people to give you an opinion, just so you’ll be able to say, “I totally disagree with you, and I know I’m right. But I’m glad to hear how you feel.”

@(name removed by moderator). Seriously?!! 😂 If I could have given you 5 likes for the laughter that brought on I would have! Drivers Ed was cause of an embarrassing moment for me too. I took mine through our local public HS during the summer since my Catholic HS didn’t offer it. My future husband also was taking it. One of my turns driving the teacher slammed on his brake causing me to slam into the steering wheel (before air bags). I was so startled and embarrassed that I burst into tears uncontrollably. The teacher had to rotate me out of the drivers seat. I honestly can’t remember what I did wrong but we were on a back street of our little town with no traffic around. Some of the other students found my situation amusing but not my husband to be. Years later when we talked about it I could then laugh at my teenaged self.

Yes I did survive and humbly passed Drivers Ed too. Double Amen to Guardian Angels who work overtime on our behalf. Amazing spiritual beings who God has assigned to us even before we were created according to Dr. Mark Miravalle’s “Angels Explained”. His CD is available through Lighthouse Catholic Media. He is a Professor of Theology and Mariology answering many questions about angels. It has given me a greater insight and respect for my own heavenly friend. Nuns at my elementary school used to say we needed to leave a space between us for our Guardian Angels when we sat in the pew during Mass. Social distancing before it’s time!!

I avoid “miserable” people…a brother-in-law is so unforgiving…an ex-brother-in-law is exactly the same! They hate each other! They are both Catholics…not practicing! I am exhausted in my effort to “get along” with them…oh, the brother-in-law had a mini stroke last month…trying to find the right words to say to him…cause he thinks he know everything…HELP!
