Megan Kelly just put the sheriff in his place on Fox. After his typical political spew regarding “talk radio” and how one party is obstructing all attempts to better this country, she asked “Is it really the place of a sheriff to “stir the pot” at this time of tragedy”? His reply “I guess the listeners will decide”.

This man has only his political agenda in mind.
I saw that too… its disturbing that is the man in charge of investigating the murder of a 9 year old girl among others.

He brought politics into it… he is the last person who should have done that.

Well, if you and Bonigli and Catholicboy don’t take anything I say seriously and would die before responding to anything I say, that’s your right to do so. There are enough conservatives and liberals here who don’t write off my contributions to the dialogue on various threads.
Don’t be melodramatic.

“People tend to pooh-pooh this business about all the vitriol we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech, but it’s not without consequences.”
Does the inflammatory political rhetoric we have been hearing contribute to inciting violence in society? Should politicians and commentators be more constructive in their opinions of their opponents and offer solutions which are more positive and more beneficial to society? This has been the subject of several commentaries:
  1. Sarah Palin’s PAC targeting opponents with gun sights, telling her supporters to reload.

Some of the comments of Glenn Beck: The other side is attacking. … There is a coup going on. … Grab a torch! … Drive a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers. … They are taking you to a place to be slaughtered. … They are putting a gun to America’s head. . mediamatters.org/research/201010110015

Etc.
Does this type of rhetoric have a proper place in political discourse, or should political discourse be exclusively of a constructive type where people offer positive solutions for the problems that America is facing today?

As soon as I saw the Sheriff’s comments, I KNEW he was a democrat, it’s right out of the playbook. Any time any tragedy occurs, if there’s any opportunity to try and spin it and try to demonize their political opponents, that’s the first thing they think of, before they even mourn the dead. It’s like it’s in their DNA, the Oklahoma City bombing, Paul Wellstone’s furneral, this, it’s the same every time

The Tea Partyists hated her victory over their candidate. Does anyone see dots to be connected? Just wondering. 🤷
There is absolutely no connection between the normal rough and tumble of partisan political discourse … and these murders.
One deranged college student with a love for The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf and a penchant for hating Jews committed murder … that is all we know … yet the sheriff and everyone with a chip on their shoulder for the opposition is turning it into a political blame game. They are instantly desperate to turn this crazy murderer into an effigy of the thing they despise. “Out of the heart… the mouth speaks.”

Oh, come now. It’s just the Democrats who try to make political hay out of such things? The GOP has been and is now wholly without sin? Give me a break!

“Never let a crisis go to waste”. Somebody said that. hhhhhmmmm

Since this type of political discourse is standard fare in the sites you have linked to I would say yes. Again anybody that thinks political discourse is more harsh now than it was in the past simply has a poor grasp of history.

Tsk tsk Rich. Don’t you remember what Mr. Bay said for ALL of us:

Just for the record though, 2 wrongs don’t make it right.

actually the democrats crossed the Rubicon last year with a political first. For the first time in our country’s history, a political party and their political leaders tried to demonize ***Average American Citizens ***(not merely politicians of the other party, but Citizens) for daring to protest against the Obama agenda. It was a first in this country, with even the President and his White House getting in on the act. The low point was where they tried to paint the whole Tea Party movement as a bunch of racists during staged confrontations in front of the Capital the day they rammed ObamaCare through. Even Bush, for all his flaws, never went after the average American citizens that were against his policies.

Are you another one who didn’t read Mr. Bay’s warning? It’ll be better all around to stick to criticism of the Sheriff and not of political groups - as requested.

MSNBC Blames Right Wing Rhetoric For Shooting Just Two Months After Dylan Ratigan Promotes Violent Leftist Revolution

Interesting video above.

By the way, I don’t think things are necessarily worse then they were in the past. Certainly not as bad as when I was growing up in the '60s
It is no coincidence that we always get these lectures on civility and how terrible politics is after the Democrats have been roundly defeated.

Can you imagine a candidate today attacking his opponent with a slogan like “Ma , Ma where’s my Pa, he’s is in the White House making the law, Ha Ha Ha”?

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Grover Cleveland won in spite of it.

Of course this kind of political venom is worse now. All of you are proving it with every post you write. Did people think this way in the past? Probably. Did they sit in front of a computer for hours writing and reading post after post about how the “other side” is wrong and “our side” is right? No they didn’t.

Just because of the Internet alone we are exposed to way, way more of this stuff than in the past. That doesn’t even include any number of television channels (Fox, MSNBC) that simply didn’t exist in past generations.

I’m convinced that A LOT of people spend an inordinate amount of time in front of their computers and going to sites like this, or Yahoo, or their local newspaper just to write hateful comments about things they don’t like.
