Who cares?? I am referring to the books who carry the same redundant theme of the Catholic church being exclusively the one and only true church with all of Protestantism being a matter of separation from and only a small part of the truth. Blah blah blah.

Yes but an edecated opinion! However this thread is lowering us to the protestant level! There are some good points it is never the less the way to reveal the truth to the protestants. I who was once protestant would have never left his thoery of beliefs because of what he had done for no man is perfect. I found my way to the catholic church through getting rid of the small minded opinions and getting an education on the original languages and history of the bible itself. It is this and the love we have that will show protestants the truth! The catholic church is christ church but poeple will not accept it until they put there defenses down and learn and pray about it! Let us pray that they will find the truth and mature spiritualy so that we may all be one body in christ again one day!

Blah, Blah, Blah, is indeed correct. Make sure that when you accuse the CC of something you back it up with reliable sources, and you are able to debate the issue. Otherwise, all you’re doing is mouthing off.

P.S. I suggested the book by Rabbi Dalin, because you wouldn’t be able to accuse him of RC bias.

Suited whom? And you have evidence that Luther said he benefitted from bigomy (that was your charge, after all)?

Read my post above yours, concerning the Inquisition. .

I stated by who and why the Inquisition was started. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had political reasons for inquiring (hence the reason it was an Inquisition) into the new found faith of certain converts. There was the real possibility that these conversos were infiltrating higher positions within the Court, only to damage it. The Pope at the time issued a bull allowing for such an inquisition, and Dominican priests were supplied because they were well-educated in law and theology. Torture was rare during the Inquisition, and people in general were treated more humanely than they would have been in secular courts. However, the inquisition was not under papal authority.

Here is an exerpt by Robert Lockwood’s article in Secrets of the Spanish Inquisition Revealed:

“But even at this early point in the history of the Spanish Inquisition, the papacy was having second thoughts. Pope Sixtus IV (1471-1484) complained about the activities of the inquisition in Aragon and its treatment of the conversos. But, as throughout much of Europe, the papacy had lost much control over the actions of local inquisitions. Pope Innocent VIII (1484-1492) complained fruitlessly as well. The inquisition in Spain was controlled by Spanish authorities, not the authority of the papacy.”

Re, a little knowledge on your part would make it clear as to why the Crusades were necessary.

The then pope wanted to get rich and that was that. The Eastern Orthodox did not support The Crusades because they were not the way of Christ. Saint Francis of Asissi tried to stop a crusade saying that it was not the way of Christ.

Anyway, for me to believe a man like Luther would be an impossibility. I am not convinced of his theology (for many reasons) mostly because he did not act like a man being led by the Holy Spirit.

The Crusades was about stopping Islamic expansionism, some who went on Crusade did not always have altruistic motives, either way it’s not like the Pope or the CC, could have stopped the looting from miles away.

There is no single person in the CC who was and is responsible for Catholic/Christian theology (We have a Magisterium, that includes bishops and the Pope to develope doctrines). Luther pretty much single-handedly developed Lutheran theology. Hence, my reason for questioning and refusing his authority on scripture.

Remember that one of Nazism’s fiercest foes, Martin Niemoller, was a Lutheran pastor, and as the 1940 Time article “German Martyrs” shows, there were many Lutherans who resisted Hitler.

Thank you for this. The fact is that both Lutherans and Catholics resisted Hitler, which is evidence of my earlier statement, that we both condemn anti-semetism and all forms of bigotry, past members of our respective communions notwithstanding.
