One of the first to tackle the gunman was Charles Sternberg, 46, a Stevenson Ranch resident and retired Navy pilot who was at the festival with his wife to volunteer at a prize booth.
“I heard the shots, and by the time I got there he had picked up his weapon and started walking away,” Sternberg said.
“I charged after him and tackled him. … I can’t be the guy who hides under my desk. I was going to get him. … I was not going to let him wander around and shoot anybody else.”
