A new pastor was assigned to our parish almost 3 years ago and he likes to take short cuts (He isn’t the only priest serving our parish of 7 churches, we have two parochial vicars and then 3 retired priests.) His most common short cut is that he doesn’t read the preface and will say 1 or 2 sentences that he made up in place of it. During the Vigil last night he didn’t read the prescribe greeting or the blessing prayer for the fire. Instead he had this little song/chant that he sung softly in which I heard some words that sounded similar to what is in the preparation of the paschal candle. He did sing the pre-2012 Exultet. He also skipped the prayers that proceeds the liturgy of the word and that follow each reading and psalm. (We only heared 1, 3, 5 & 7) The only one we heard was the last one before the Gloria.
