Shorts at Mass??

And I’ve seen a lot worse in church than shorts. We have one family that wears jogging suits everyweek, another that wears their favorite football team jerseys every Sunday during football season (** It’s the Steelers, so it’s ok;) **) Then there are those that wear super short skirts or skin tight blue jeans! All of those seem worse to me then the nice dress shorts and top I have worn. My shorts go to the knee…which is as long as some of my skirts!

I often wonder why some people spend more time worrying about what they wear to church or what other people wear to church then on the condition of their heart for worship. I would find it extemely sad to be harshly judging people before or during Mass…takes away from the whole point:shrug: I’m not saying it isn’t sometimes difficult but that is what the struggling is all about.

It reminds me of how so many people seem to spend more time planning the wedding…then the marriage.🤷

You sure? One of those Friars has a photo on our parish page of him riding a horse. The other day, Father was holding a puppy before mass and asked someone to come up and take care of it until someone claimed it.

Franciscans are really cool. I think Father wears shorts under his habit during the summer. but he nearly croaks when one of the lecterns come forward to read and they are wearing a mini skirt :eek: Talk about an education for children in the pews.

I would tend to think if someone showed up in gym shorts and no shoes, there is something going on I don’t know about.
 
I have been a catholic for seven months now and no matter how hot is outside, i dress like if i were going to a fine dinner. When meeting the Lord in the House of God one should dress accordingly.

Shorts, bare arms, bare shoulders and such is inappropiate.

How about daily mass? If you go during the week, do you still dress like you’re going to a fine dinner?

Bare arms is inappropriate? Huh? You do also know that many people would wear bare shoulders to a fine dinner…🤷

Yes. Because that is how important the Lord is to me and to recieve the holy communion i feel it`s my duty to be worthy recieving the true last supper.

I don’t wear sleeveless to mass.

During the week, I wear whatever I wore to work. My job is business casual especially in the IT department. I rarely look like I’m going to a state dinner during the week. In fact, sometimes my dress is a bit alternative, but never immodest.

I agree. I get irritated when my daughter manages to get past my wife’s lack of attention. My wife doesn’t wear sleeveless, but my daughter does on occation. I leave that to my wife for the sake of preace. When my daughter gets older, I will make sure she realizes what my wife knows already. My wife used to wear only dresses to church. Still does as a Catholic now. God help us from women and men that don’t care about modesty.

Fine dining or not, it’s inappropriate at mass, any church. To each his own opinion.

I am very sure. I love St Francis of Assisi, St Martin de Pores in part for the fact they did not see it wrong to care for animals as well as humans. Better to care for a puppy than shoot an animal for sport (a certain well known US priest).

What is your definition of a mini skirt? I dont care what people wear but should it perhaps not be too distracting. Also there should be some common sense. Also rather a bad choice if very short and not fitted when there is a wind. Have actually never seen anything “shocking” at mass. Saying that, I would not be bothered if anyone walked in faded, darned sweats, in a cocktail dress or whatever. Dress should not be a reason to keep anyone from church. If we are not to judge a man’s soul and decide whether someone should receive the Eucharist, who are we to judge his outer appearance?

Does anyone really think anyone comes to church, dressed to titilate etc?

I agree, absolutely. There should cleaning up of the soul and inner modesty in going to receive Christ. The form is so much more important to some,
 
Are you kidding me? What do you think the people that Jesus ministered to dressed like? Do you realize that He didn’t just minister to the rich , successful, well-dressed people of society, but rather to the poor , displaced, needy, ugly, people. Based on these statements, I’m surprised Jesus didn’t ask them first to go home and get cleaned up and change their clothes before He could touch or minister to them. So superficial to judge people’s committment to Christ based on what they wear.

No wonder most people only show up for Mass on Easter and Christmas.

There’s a huge difference between judging someone’s choices and judging someone’s soul.
If the hem of the dress barely falls below the buttocks then it’s inappropriate for anything, especially Mass, Divine Liturgy. When a woman takes the appropriate bow in the middle of the isle, up front and the skirt pulls up there is a problem. Our pastor has turned red in the face with anger several times since our conversion to Catholicism. Women dress inappropriately at our previous faith’s churches are not asked, but told to leave. As a category of people, Catholics seem so permissive to allow inappropriate behavior from my experience that I have very little faith that they’ll do the right things. It’s like a bunch of over grown teeny boppers, defiant of a beautifully arranged Church that Christ established. Now, 50 years ago, this was not true. But the Catholics that buy into the blessing theology and look at me attitudes seem to have thrown Christ out of the worship, including their lives. That’s a judgement, not a judgement on their salvation. Only God can do that.

So, my opinion of women that flaunt their booty and everything else in front of a thousand people, including children have much to contemplate on. Lecterns are clearly trained and given the proper dress code for serving. When they wear in appropriate clothing, they’ve clearly chosen to not obey Father, and therefore the bishop and the Church authority.
