Man defends firing shots near Bush protesters
'I just want ‘em to pack their damn tents and go back to where they came from’

I disagree with the protesters near the bush ranch, but I in no way condone this man firing shots near them. He didn’t threaten them, but it’s still inappropriate.

I think that is legal in Texas.
It is.

I may agree with his beliefs, but I don’t agree with how he expressed them.

Sounded to me like he was just tired of the circus in his front yard. We in the South West tend to express our views differently then those up in New York City.

Rush had an interesting take on the incident. The man said he was practicing for dove season. What is one of the symbols of the “Peace” movement? A dove.

What…to be a moron and fire a gun just cause its legal?

Or to make a typical radical right winger comment such as “I’m just getting ready for DOVE season”… and then to say…“figure that out for yourself” ?

Or to say…its like a brother in law who stays longer than 5 days and wears out his welcome?

Yeah, I love to see what would happen if they camped in the front yard of a person in NYC:whistle: The gun shot in the air would have been nothing. There would be both sides fighting like two dogs over a bone.:bounce: A big huge mess. And most of the people there would not give a care either way they just love being “part of it” Trust me I live not to far from the city.

I’ll bet more people are annually killed by guns in New York City than in the whole state of Texas. Just because a gun was fired near them does not mean it was fired in their direction

It wasn’t, it was fired in the air.

I’m tired of the circus and I don’t even have to smell the porta-potties.
I understand that she has a protest in progress but she and the growing number of protesters should feel a civic duty to at least apologize to this innocent man for interrupting his life.

…sometimes people say things that really surprise me… how can anyone make light of an idiot with a gun… anyone who has used a gun knows the force that a bullet has returning to earth after being shot in the air… does an innocent have to die here before even you decide that maybe we are just over the top here…

…i can understand the disagreement in ideas or points of view, but to shrug off dangerous indiscriminent discharging of weapons… well, i am frankly a little surprised at you… sorry too…

Peace Gillam…:o

Shots are fired in the air around here all the time, usually in celibration of a birthday or something like that. Dangerous? In a city, yes. In the country, less so.

How far can they go? Couple of miles.

A couple of miles up and then a couple of miles down are no problem, it’s the last 2 to 3 inches down that’s a problem to the poor innocent sod underneath.

I must admit I’ve never understood this macabre fascination Americans have for guns. I appreciate the following link may be a little old but I would suggest it may still suprise one or two, particularly Texans.

Most of the people around here who shoot guns in the air are Mexican

Ahhh – did you pick up on the part about “practicing for dove season?”

That means a shotgun and number eight shot. Now for reasons too complicated to go into here, small shot has a very low terminal velocity – I’ve had number 8 shot rain down on the bill of my cap.

All evidence shows that the gun was pointed in a safe direction, with no possibility of anyone being injured.

Now that a response worthy of Bart Simpson:

“I didn’t do it!!!”

How much would you like to bet?

2002, Firearm-related deaths in Texas:

2,301, in a population of 21,736,925, for a rate of 10.59/thousand.

2002 Firearm-related deaths in New York:
