Should a man marry if he has overly-healthy libido?

My apologies in advance if this seems a little distasteful,

But, I was wondering, if a man happens to have a s_x drive that would make him need to be intimate with his wife quite frequently ( like at least once a day ), would that be a burden on any possible woman who is considering taking that man for a husband?

Should such a guy simply just not get married?

This is just a hypothetical for now.
Thanks in advance for your views.

Why would a man with an “overly healthy” libido NOT get married?

But he ought to marry some woman who also had a healthy libido.

And he would need to realize that his libido might need to be restrained on occasion for a variety of reasons.

I think the first thing said man would need to realize is that sex drive or no sex drive, it is unrealistic to think that they will, in fact, have sex daily or even frequently. There are many aspects of daily living that preclude sex-- travel, illness, need to space children, and the ever present daily ebb and flow of life.

So, an important first step for any person-- man or woman-- is mastery of the will and building of virtue. It would be particularly important to develop the virtue of chastity, as every person is called to chastity in their state of life.

It will also be important for this person to discern the fact that they do not actually need to have sex every day. This is simply untrue. And, as with all sorts of needs (which are really just “wants”) they will be called upon to sacrifice and put this so-called need aside when necessary.

It is also something of a stereotype that you bring forward-- that the man wants sex all the time and the woman is “burdened” by this. Sometimes it is the opposite, you know.

Your question, on the whole, seems overly simplistic to me.

One would think that you are assuming that women do not like sex and that it is a burden to them. Hmmm…

You might want to rethink that notion. 😉

Why in the world would someone with a healthy libido not get married?

You might like to have sex with your wife at least once a day, but you do not need to have sex with your wife that frequently. It is not like eating, breathing or drinking water. It’s for bonding and creating children, not merely for recreation. You are not considering this question properly. The question should be,

“How should I use my God-given sexual desires to glorify God?”

If a man feels he " needs" to have sex daily, he doesnt have a healthy libido. He has an unhealthy attachment to sex.

You get married because that’s what you are called to, not because you need to fulfill an urge.

Libido will also change over time- and what’s to say your wife won’t have one to match?

Ah, but that’s not what the biology textbooks or life science texts claim. I agree with you, but the average joe does not ever hear your point of view and is bombarded by these scientific claims of fact.

Rather than being burdened by frequent sex, I’m afraid this hypothetical woman’s heaviest burden would be having a husband who has so many issues that he can’t bring himself to spell the word s-e-x.

By contrast, that he has a need to fulfill suggests he is called to that very state of life. Marriage is, after all, intended in part as a remedy for concupiscence.

So yes, OP, it seems reasonable that if you have a strong sex drive, you may well be called to marriage and should consider it. Your sex drive doesn’t sound considerably stronger than any other man’s, FWIW; I’m sure most would be satisfied with having sex once a day if the circumstances permitted it.

I don’t see why a man with a strong sex drive shouldn’t get married. My husband and I have sex pretty much every day (unless we can’t due to schedules or circumstances) and it is certainly no burden on me. Each marital embrace is a blessing and a bonding experience. Some women, yes, have a strong sex drive as well. It is a myth that women don’t like sex or that they cannot have just as strong of a sex drive as men do. You just need to be understanding, patient, and realize that sex is more than a means to sate your urges.

In the OP’s defense, he may have been under the assumption that sex was one of the words that would be automatically flagged in a post or removed or prevent the post from being posted at all.

These forums do have programming to eliminate profanity and some forums will remove the post if it has certain words. So typing s*x or s_x is meant to get around the restrictions. Just so happens, sex is not a word filtered by this forum. Since the OP is new, he likely didn’t know that.

By principle, there is wedding because there love (natural love and spiritual love). Marital act is sexual love between wife and husband that is a symbol of this love.

Per se, conjugal act very often is not a problem, but Bride and Bridegroom have to moral obligation to talk about their sex drive, their physical needs, their types of intimacy, their wishes, their desires before the wedding and during the marriage.

Modeation is the key, but moderation is in function of each couple, each wife and each husband. There is no figure for defining the moderation. The key is the true love that is composed of : the love, the rights, the obligations and the duties in the marriage.

Each spouse has a moral obligation: to control its sex drive, to be prudent, to be fair, to listen the needs of each other, to understand the sexual will of the other, to know the natural and spiritual limits about sex, to avoid objectivation of sex.

If this is that big of a concern for a man I would say that he should wait to get married. It’s OK and natural for a man to want to have relations frequently with his wife and it meant to be that way by God.

However, if he becomes so attatched to having sex that he has to have it everyday or some negative behvior occurs then the man has an issue. No man should feel entitled to daily sex. When you get married, have kids, jobs and get older things change. A woman that one wanted daily sex may end up only really wanting weekly or even monthly relations due to stress, energy levels and various other things. Toss in NFP and you might be looking at fairly infrequent relations.

If you are a good husband you wouldn’t pressure your wife to have relations if she’s not in the mood for it. It’s one thing if you go long periods of time without having relations but just because you don’t get it every day isn’t an unusual thing.

If this is that big of an issue you should probably focus more on other aspects of marriage. Sex isn’t like having your daily cup of coffee so don’t treat it as such.

Hmmm. One would hope that this man has learned how to deal with his strong sex drive prior to marriage. And he should understand that being married will not relieve him of the need to control it after he is married.

So why not get married?

Now if this man has not figured out how to stay chaste before he is married then he is going to bring that issue into a marriage. Whether or not that means he should delay marriage or not marry at all is going to depend on individual factors.
