Should Brian Williams resign?

I’m beginning to wonder if Williams is suffering from some kind of mental illness that makes him exaggerate…

…or if that is what NBC is going to try to sell us six months from now.

I’m watching the Today show right now (day off and feeling sick), and it seems that everyone is being so solicitous of Williams, although as if he is “sick” and the six months is a chance for him to “heal.”

So watch for it in six months.

Perhaps they’ll try to link it to meds that he received after his knee replacement.

Sometimes as with Tiger Woods people use the language of therapy to hide character flaws.

It’s kind of funny that even after this, Williams still ranks as more trustworthy than Bill O’Reilly. If that ranking system has any merit, of course.

It seems like a reasonable course of action to suspend him for 6 months. They still appear to be investigating everything, which only seems fair that they do their due diligence. This gives them six months to investigate and then either decide to let him go permanently, give Williams the chance to resign, or exonerate him in some way and welcome him back. I’m not sure how likely that last option is, but I guess we’ll see.

He violated the public trust. He’s done. But his exaggerations were not harmful. And the public vitriol over this is almost frightening.

Geez… Why don’t we just put him in a cage and light him on fire.

Of course I’m not serious… but… as we are exposed to more and more heinous and gruesome acts, our thirst for blood increases. Figuratively speaking of course. Literally too, perhaps.

I understand what you’re advancing…but what he did affects how people perceive the profession. Look at all the comments re: corrupt politicians, money hungry doctors, abusive clergy…etc.
Kids today need to see that there are BIG consequences for these things, not just “oops, my bad”. We see far too much of that.
But I get what you’re sayin…

Yeah, I have to agree. What he did was wrong. But this tidal wave of hatred and lust for punishment is just bizarre. So fire the guy. Why is there a need to burn him at the stake?

Maybe they will. But then, I can think of one religious network that tried to justify a certain Franciscan’s solicitous comments about Jerry Sandusky–Penn State’s convicted child molester–by saying he received brain damage in a car accident. No difference there that I can see…

I voted no. Brian Williams is my favorite newscaster, and I will miss him. If he stretched the truth about a few things, doesn’t that just make him a member of the fallen human race?

I like the way he delivers the news, and I’m sure that someone else writes the things that he says on the news. He is more like an actor saying his lines.

I suspect that someone in high places wants him gone!
