Should broke people receive health care?

I’m surely not bright enough to figure out the answer, but having a system so heavily influenced by the insurance and pharmacuetical industries . . . . .

We all rely on other people. Public insurance is just bigger than private insurance; it’s not different. You are still relying on other people paying their premiums, which is what pays for your medical bills. (Unless you are paying so much that you might as well be paying your medical bills out of pocket - in which case, why have insurance?)

And yes, I pay the health care portion of my taxes - along with the rest. 🙂

Because of the fact that I don’t collect benefits, I won’t be taking public money for my retirement, if and when I retire, so don’t worry about that. I will most likely be working until my dying day. (Which suits me just fine - I enjoy my work.)

That’s why Medical Savings Accounts (as we have been discussing) make so much sense – they put your healthcare decisions in your hands, not in the insurance industry’s.

False dichotomy. The fact that we rely on others in some cases doesn’t automatically mean we forfeit all responsibility for ourseves.

And, in summation:

Broke people should definately be left to attend to their own healthcare needs. They can buy fish antibiotics at the pet store without even seeing a doctor and save some money there. They can give birth at home if they can’t afford a doctor, people used to do that all the time. If they get cancer or have a heart attack, they can just accept the consequences of their station in life and hopefully die quietly and out of sight of the public eye.

I pay my health care tax ($600.00 a year), which contributes to the health care system that I use. (I get the money to pay the tax by working for a living. I’m not on any kind of welfare.)

It’s the same idea as paying insurance for health care. It’s not “free” - it’s paid for with health care taxes. (And yes, I pay my health care taxes, my income taxes, my goods and services taxes, and all my other taxes. I am not getting a “free ride.”)

If you are buying health care insurance (because of the fact that you have no health care tax in the US), then you are no more “paying your own way” than I am - just like me, you are pooling your money with other people’s money, and then someone is taking money out (from the whole amount that everyone put in; not just what you put in) for you, to pay your health care bills when you get sick.
 
Healthcare should be available to all. We are very blessed to have the National Health Service. Everyone in our country gets healthcare. It is paid for in our taxes and few people grudge paying it bacause nobody knows when a time might come where they need treatment. Some people do, however, pay for private treatment. This means they can be seen quicker and have a tv in their room. That is their choice. they still have to pay the taxes anyway.

One thing that NHS brings to mind is now everyone will be able to afford an abortion, get an abortion, get IVF treatments or some other immoral thing.
Do I really want my funds to go to that?
How does it work in Scotland? Is everything under the sun covered or are some things not covered, Abortions, IVF etc?

I don’t want my taxes going for many things I don’t approve of. I’m sure that your insurance payments now are funding abortions. Basically, health insurance is socialized medicine that is not run by the government.
