Should Catholic colleges strive to be gay-friendly?

Well, you could say the same about any ministry that reaches out to individuals who experience same-sex attraction. One does not look at the Courage ministry and conclude that it is the beginning of a slippery slope to Church dialogue with Satanists, NAMBLA, druggies, et al.

If the Church is going to minister faithfully to these individuals then she must extend to them a specific welcome. This counteracts the specific welcome that the same-sex attracted individual will receive from organizations that will not encourage him in chastity. It also demonstrates in a concrete fashion that the message these other groups propound about the Church “hating” the man with same-sex attraction is incorrect.

Catholic colleges should be Catholic. What you see at a number of Catholic colleges appears to be liberal administrators implementing programs or managing the college in ways that appear to not conform to Catholic teaching.

Mike Adams wrote about an incident at Gonzaga U., where the administration was hostile to a group promoting a “Defense of Marriage Act”, basically calling it homophobic. Using the logic of the administration, Catholic Answer’s voters guide would be considered homophobic.

I see your point. However, this public “welcome” suggests implicit support for the lifestyle as being an acceptable alternative.

Homosexual ‘desires’ are NOT evil.

well, lets take a look at what the catechims says

**2351 *Lust ***is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.

lust, a mortal sin (evil), is a disordered desire for sexual pleasure. homosexual desire is definitivley disordered.

**2358 **The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial.

it is an objective fact that homosexual desires are lustful because they are inheriently disordered.

They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

the rest of the catechism is redundant because we are to treat everyone, reguardless of their actions with respect, compassion and sensitivity because we are all created in the image of God. now i think people tend to use language like this to defend homosexuality in the church.

I understand you call homosexual desires or tendencies ‘lust’, but the catechism you quote says this is an ‘inclination’ and it is ‘disordered’, but it is a ‘trial’, not a mortal sin.

well i think you are reading it wrong. isn’t life a trial for all of us? aren’t we all subject to temptation and sin? there is nothing in the catechism about homosexuals that doesn’t apply to us. the only conclusion you can draw from it is:

1. as of now, it’s genesis is unknown. i have an article from a leading psycologist from princeton who believes it’s entirely enviromental because the latest data shows most homosexuals become heterosexual. this “sexual orientation” is a load of b.s.
2. objectively, homosexual desires is always lustful and therefore a sin because it is disordered. obviously, pschological factors may lessen the guilt but it can never make it neutral or good.
3. we shouldn’t treat them unjustly as we shouldn’t treat anyone unjustly. they do not deserve special treatment because of their sexual perversion.

COLLEGE OF ST. CATHERINE TO HOST DRAG SHOW

The radical feminist professor of a course on lesbian literature at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, is ponsoring a “Drag Show” on campus this evening, May 12. This is the third year that the event featuring lesbian themes and sexuality will occur on the Catholic campus. The event is co-sponsored by a group called PRIDE and the student government, with funding from the St. Kate’s Activities Team.

Announcements of the event identify the main sponsor as “Lesbian Texts in Context,” an English and Women’s Studies course taught by the chair of the English Department, Cecilia Konchar Farr. In Farr’s syllabus for the
course, which requires reading homosexual-themed books including Oranges
Aren’t the Only Fruit and The Dyke and the Dybbuk, she informs students that the course “may appear to more political to you than others.
…Please be assured that your views… will not affect your grade (except when they are poorly articulated).” The spring semester course ends with a “Queer Graduation Party” held on May 10 and a “Final Exam: Queer Coffee” on May 17.

The recipient of a 1992 National Organization for Women “Women of Courageous Action” award, Farr received national attention in 1993 when
she was dismissed from the faculty of Brigham Young University, a Mormon institution. Although herself a Mormon, Farr provoked the ire of Brigham Young officials by advocating abortion rights and other tenets of radical
feminism. She spoke at a 1992 abortion rights rally in Salt Lake City, Utah, identifying herself as a faithful but “pro-choice” Mormon, and later published her speech.
