SHOULD Catholics attend Protestant services?

If you think the Baltimore Cathechism is a good guide for your life, you might consider the following:

**204. How can a Catholic best safeguard his faith? **
A Catholic can best safeguard his faith by making frequent acts of faith, by praying for a strong faith, by studying his religion very earnestly, by living a good life, by good reading, by refusing to associate with the enemies of the Church, and by not reading books and papers opposed to the Church and her teaching.
*I know that after my departure fierce wolves will get in among you, and will not spare the flock. And from among your own selves men will rise speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. (Acts 20:29-30) *

**205. How does a Catholic sin against faith? **
A Catholic sins against faith by apostasy, heresy, indifferentism, and by taking part in non-Catholic worship.

**206. Why does a Catholic sin against faith by taking part in non-Catholic worship. **
A Catholic sins against faith by taking part in non-Catholic worship when he intends to identify himself with a religion he knows is defective.
This is why I was born, and why I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice. (John 18:37)

Lorrie:
I would never be tempted to convert especially after growing up in that environment. Do I see myself attending a protestant service in the future? Only if the Pope called/showed up at my door/sent me a personal letter and asked me to (in other words, no). 😉
I agree 100%. I can imagine why anybody would want to anyway. But I am a cradle Catholic, so maybe I’m behind times. As far as eccumenism, it seems to me that our Church is bending over backwords to understand other religions, while they still believe the Pope is the anti-Christ and we, as Catholics are all headed for hell, unless we turn our backs on the Church, and its traditions and teachings. When they start trying to understand us more, then I’ll meet them halfway. But I will continue to pray for Christian unity.

If it’s theoretically ok for Catholics to simply go anytime to any random non-Catholic worship service, then it naturally follows that it would be ok for our children to attend Protestant services, bible studies, bible clubs, church camps, etc. Surely we ALL see the problem with that?

I think that the Church probably feels that INTER-“church”/ecumenical services (ie, the Pope prays with the Archbishop of Canterbury at the site of St. Thomas’ martyrdom, Thanksgiving services where OUR bishops and priests are given a role, national memorial services, etc.) are kosher, but not periodic individual attendance.
