Well…Ham was the first Hominid launched into space…he beat us humans…so they must be smarter than us…(I’m joking)

They will rule over us one day in a new era, when they will become the stronger speicies, as humans will become weaker due to the infighting among themselves.
I for one will welcome our new overlords.

It seems as if the polls are against personhood for chimpanzees.

I wonder if the results would be any different if the same poll were asked about orangoutangs or gorillas?

If we treated them as persons, would chimps treat us as persons?

They are intelligent animals compared to other animals. But they are not personal beings as defined by the Catholic Church. They do not have a personal soul in the sense that they are not capable of participating in a personal relationship with God. We were created with that nature insomuch as we were given a personal soul as defined by the Church. A chimp’s nature does not have that capacity despite having similar traits with humans.

An atheist may consider them to be persons because God is not the standard by which they judge nature or define “persons”.

Should chimps be considered human?

Depends. Can they be trained to vote Democratic?

If not, then there is hope for them.

D
They will vote for whichever party stands a better chance of transforming the country into a banana republic.
Someday, I will answer for the cackling that this provoked.

The very, very loud cackling. 😆😆😆

If the liberal intelligentsia in Canada declare them human, which bathroom will they use?

If they are declared human, will the Chimps in zoos qualify for citizenship under DACA?

I hope we don’t have to build more bathrooms. Pretty soon office buildings will have 9 offices and 137 bathrooms.

If they were declared human, which I will qualify as being against Catholic teaching, the legal implications would be amazing.

It would be an interesting topic on a legal blog.

Seriously, apes are not human. They therefore cannot be humans, no matter how close they are to our DNA.
The DNA argument they make is absurd. The “two percent” they are always amazed at is actually an extremely large amount of information that is not well understood at all.

Even though relativism and confusion became popular, we must defend truth.

The terms human and person are actually different.
Human refers to biology. Chimps are not human.
However a person is a being that has certain capacities or attributes such as reason, morality, consciousness or self-consciousness, and being a part of a culturally established form of social relations such as kinship

Chimps are self-conscious

They have also been shown to have the ability to reason as experiments have shown that they have insightful thinking and are able to solve problems by thinking it through without being shown the solution before hand.

They also have morality, I do not know if a similar experiment was done with chimps but rhesus monkeys would rather not get food then shock another monkey. In another experiment a rhesus monkey shared food with another rhesus monkey who helped them get the food.

They are also able to learn language. (Not through speaking because they cannot make a wide range of sounds) but they can learn sign language.
