Should I Baby-Sit the Child of Lesbians?

Would you babysit the child if the mother was a functioning alcoholic? A single mom by choice? A single lesbian mother? A liar? An adulterer?

Are you yourself without sin?
Christians are not obliged to seek the company of those who choose to live against God’s law. Nobody is without sin but that should not be an excuse to pretend that things are ok when they are not. I’m not saying she should go there and give them a lecture about their immoral lifestyle but she obviously doesn’t feel right about working there. I am shocked that people actually encourage the OP to go into a situation where she is not comfortable and where she can be scandalised.

The OP is not comfortable with the living arrangements in that household. That should be enough for her to feel free to reject the offer. The OP is under no obligation to work there so she could prove some kind of a point that some of the posters feel she should make.

We all are praying with you for those three people. Babysit, pray over the child.

I don’t know if you can do a “secret” baptism as a lay person or not.

work on building a relationship, so you can be a positive influnce.
It would be a very grave mistake to secretly baptize a child that without the parents permission or hope that the child will not be raised Catholic. We are not to do that.

I think this is the coolest post here.

Totally agree.

If the spirit of this world take our children, what’s the matter to take them back to where they belong (in the hand of God) ?

Children do not belong in gay concept. If two people have chosen to be gay, then they have chosen to be barren as well. The children do not belong to them. In fact gay people owe their children the explanation of their existance in this world, that is through heterosexual relation.

I don’t know if this is something the Church says, but somewhere, I was told to “hate the sin, not the sinner.” You’ve got to look over that. They’re two women. Don’t think of them as lesbians, think of them as people. What if you ran a fancy restaurant, and the couple sat for dinner. Are you “condoning their behavior” by serving them a meal? Of course not, you’re simply doing your job! I say, treat it like any other babysitting gig!

SIMPLY NOT TRUE. Can you provide a source? Or show us in the Bible? .

A Bible is not necessary. A simple biology text will do. It is impossible for two women or two men to have a child together.

One woman and one man can create a child and then one of them can chose to raise the child without the other parent. He/she can even get somone else (same or oposite sex) to move in and help with the parenting. But the parents will always be one man and one woman.

I do not need to show you bible to know that it’s impossible for two people of the same gender to conceive. They have chosen out of their freewill to deny the possibility to ever be able to conceive by choosing to be gay.

You can read any science textbook to know this fact.

I’m having a difficult time with some of these posts. You can’t catch homosexuality from homosexuals. If your not comfortable with the their lifestyle and going to do the whole hate the sin love the sinner speech, they don’t need you to babysit. I wouldn’t let you babysit my kids if you came in with that attitude. There are other families you can babysit for to make money.

Tell me, what if this “couple” simply lives together and does not have sex with each other? Does that change anything? Would the same go for a man/woman couple who are not married but have a child together?

So a person that is not comfortable with homsexual activities is not competent to be a babysitter.

Wow, how far we have fallen!

Sure. Do it. Be the best baby sitter they’ve ever had. Pray the Rosary while you sit. Pray for the child, pray for the two women. Be enormously helpful and cheerful and dependable.

Be firm in your convictions if asked. If they ever ask about your convictions be enormously clear and charitable about it.

Do it all for the love of God.

You are assuming that neither of the women gave birth to the child. BTW, the point that I am trying to make is that lots of lesbians have biological children. All children are gifts from God. What is your point?

🤷

I wouldn’t think twice about babysitting.

Even if the child was born of one of the two women, they were born of heterosexual relation.

My point is : if you choose to be gay, you are not fit to be a parent, simply because all children are the fruit of heterosexual relation.

And you were right when you said that all children are the gift of God, they certainly have their own right to know love, the love from where they come from. Certainly not gay love, because gay love can’t produce children.

I won’t hesitate to babysit, totally agree with you on this one.

Abaout “hate the sin, love the sinner” :

In my opinion, Big Dummy’s post below has also reflected the attitude of “hate the sin, love the sinner” perfectly.

As Mother Teresa is credited with saying, “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”

👍

I don’t work where I’m not comfortable, either, regardless of the reasons for the discomfort.

Unless, of course, she would be in violation of some equal opportunity law or regulation by rejecting a job because of the sexual orientation of the client. And anymore, that’s something one has to worry about.

This is a private home. No one is required to answer a solicitation (or a personal request) for employment. Nothing would be violated. People are entitled to turn down a job offer or advertisement based on discomfort. No one even has to articulate the reasons. People sometimes decline to accept job offers in certain localities due to safety concerns, whether real or imagined.

Also, you have it in reverse. The law would apply if the person answering an employment solicitation were to expressly be rejected by the employer based on orientation. That is the reverse of the dynamic here.

I think that stating that “choosing to be homosexual” means you are automatically an unfit parent (post #32) is highly unfair and inaccurate. There are plenty of people that struggle with same-sex attraction, get married and have a family, and do a great job as a parent. They have that particular cross to bear, it does not make them a unfit to be a parent. When someone like that ends up leaving their spouse and taking up a homosexual lifestyle, does he/she all of a sudden lose their ability to parent? Or their right to be a parent to their child? That is absurd, and unjust.

As for the babysitting job… In my opinion, if you take the job, you will appear to be endorsing the lifestyle these women lead. It can give scandal. I would not do it, but that is an entirely personal choice.

The bottom line is that neither Christianity nor specifically Catholicism requires that an individual accept uncomfortable employment in order ‘not to be perceived as intolerant.’ Tolerance, compassion, charity, does not extend so far as to require affirming someone else’s lifestyle or to accept a job offer just to “prove” (apparently to anonymous CAF members who are not being asked to baby-sit) that such an individual meets the Tolerance Standards set artificially by invisible others. The OP, if the OP is genuine in asking the question, should do what she or he feels comfortable with. No decision is “required” one way or the other. Nothing in Catholic moral theology demands acceptance or rejection of the job opportunity.
